Animal Communication: 10 Easy Ways to Connect With Your Cat

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

Updated 2024: We live in times of increased stress and our cats’ pick up on our moods. Anything we can do to improve our cat/human bond will help create a happier home for all concerned. This post is in memoriam of a friend who has joined her many animal companions across the veil.

Astrologer, animal communicator and healer extraordinaire Flash Silvermoon wrote this guest post. Animals and humans communicate via energy exchanges and cats being so sensitive could use extra help as they process stress. If we can tune into them, give them extra love and attention, we’ll all feel better.

Animal Communication: 10 Easy Ways to Connect With Your Cat

By Flash Silvermoon

We all know how to communicate one way or another but how do we communicate with animals? You do not need to be a Pet Psychic to be able to communicate with animals. If you can, expect to be able to share in that way with another specie AND this is the big one, one must not presume to be better or more intelligent or in any way see the animals as subordinate or less than you. That may sound way too simple but believe me it is the truth.

Many a pet owner ( that term is strange as one does not “own” another being), has spoken to me in frustration because they say, “I talk and talk to my pet and I never get anything back.” Of course therein lies the problem; they do all the talking. If one is to communicate with an animal, you must most to learn to Listen.

Your animals will be so thrilled when you start to listen to them that the messages will come tumbling out. Animal Communication can take many forms i.e. hearing their words inside your own head like thought transference. In this form the words may be so simple and off-handed that you may miss them unless you are really paying attention.

When I place my hands on an animal that I am treating they will show me images of what is going on with them or perhaps what they really like if nothing more pressing is involved. They actually speak to each other by sharing images.

If you are an empath, you may learn about their feelings through your own. For instance, if they are feeling scared, you may suddenly feel scared. If they are suffering from a bloated stomach likewise you may feel the disease what ever it may be. This is the least pleasant way but highly reliable.

You may experience all three modes of communication or just one or two but either way the key is listening. I experience all three ways of communicating with my own animals as well as those that I treat. You and your animal companions will have a much better relationship when you open those simple lines of communication and you can truly become best friends.

10 Easy Ways to Communicate With Your Animal Companions

1. Numbers 1,2 and 3 LISTEN. You must get used to clearing your head of thoughts and allow the energy and thoughts of your pet or other animal in to speak to you.

4. EXPECT to get a message or some communication and banish your fear that nothing will happen. They are communicating all the time, join the conversation.

5. RELAX, it may not happen the first time so just allow space and time and you will succeed.

6. Communication may come in many ways and on different levels. If you feel something different in your body as you start “tuning in”, you are feeling their feelings, be it fear or just a belly ache. You may hear words in your head and no you are not crazy, this will be thought transference, and you may see images too.

7. One of the best ways to have the experience of communicating with your pet or even a new animal you might be wanting to adopt is to put your hand on the back of the animal, close your eyes and allow them to share pictures with you as this is how they communicate with each other. You can ask them: how are you feeling or where did you come from?

8. Literally talking to them is not wrong and you can do this but should be after you have mastered Listening. My animal companions comprehend rather complex sentences and discussions and feel included when they are spoken to. Just make sure that listening happens more frequently.

9. Remember, these are your animal companions and never think of them as “just animals”. They are enlightened beings like we are. Like people, some are brighter and some are stubborn but they are not less than.

10. Positive reinforcement is The Way to make things happen with your animals as they want to please you. This is especially true for dogs and not as much for cats who have catitude and sometimes like to show detachment from your approval!

This should open the door for a much better relationship for you and your animal companions and create the space for you to truly become your Pet’s Best Friend.

My most wonderful and intelligent Kublai years ago taught me to listen by literally thinking words at me quite loudly until I heard them. Many cats later I’m still learning and remember his initial lesson (and the feline look, “You are so dense, woman. What took so long?”) Now with the Five, all related and who often think and act as one I just can’t get any peace some days. I talk to them in words and actions and they respond as felines.

I have always been able to communicate with my animal companions and it really is a reciprocal relationship if you care to make it so. My Mr. Jazz is aging and he and I have increased our emotional connection via touch and internal communication and I know he is comforted by the fact that I am listening to him.

  • Eric and Flynn

Thank you for this post. I think Flynn is communicating his sadness to me. Ivor and I are desperately sad at losing Eric, but when I pick Flynn up and cuddle him, the sadness is overwhelming. I think I am feeling the pain of both of us when this happens.

Fantastic post by a very talented lady.

Yes, I talk to Cheddar. I stare at him, and then blink once. Then he watches my lips to see what I will say.

I make a tiny kissy sound, and he gets up and boops me, because he wants me to pet him or he wants food.
