Our New Rochelle Humane Society shelter volunteer spotlight has a big bright spot this week. Zelda, a sweet, older torbie gal we featured back in June, who went from a cage to a foster home 10 weeks ago has found her forever home! This shows the power of foster love. It can help the shy ones over the hump to adoptability, even from extreme cases like hoarding. Love and patience can surmount the greatest odds.

Zelda torbie cat UPDATE after my shelter visit today. Molly was moved to the larger caged room. She seems depressed. Best news: Gilbert was ADOPTED!

Our spotlight this this week is Molly who arrived at the shelter in March and remains in a cage in the smallest, windowless room of the shelter. Hers is an all too common story of life in happy home until it isn’t. Illness forced her owner into a nursing home and Molly lost her mom, her home, her sister and life as she knew it. All things considered, this gorgeous torbie mix is sad but resilient and has not given up hope. Unlike many of the caged cats, she’s not afraid to jump from her high top tier cage. I’ll place a step stool for her to make it easier and she’s quite the acrobat leaping from the top step back into her cage. She loves to stretch her long frame as high as she can go and doesn’t mind being held and carried. She’s a lovely girl who with no issues. She just needs a home.
