If you’re thinking of adopting a new furry family member, find out why now is the perfect time!
Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days is the Biggest Free- to qualified homes- Adoption Event in America is taking place Saturday, May 31 & Sunday, June 1 in 9 states with 200 organizations participating! The goal is to empty out the shelters by finding loving forever homes for 10,000 cats and dogs while raising awareness of shelter animals, and provide healthy dogs and cats with a second chance at life in a forever home.
Maddie’s Fund will pay organizations $500 for each adoption of a young and healthy animal, $1,000 for each adoption involving a dog or cat who is 7 years of age or older or who has been treated for one or more treatable medical conditions, and $2,000 for each adoption involving a dog or cat who is 7 years of age or older and who has been treated with one or more treatable medical conditions. This is a huge win win for all. All available pets have been spayed or neutered and vaccinated.
Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days is being presented in New York by The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals. We’re huge fans and supporters of the 501(c)(3) non-profit charity which works with 150+ rescue groups and shelters to find homes for thousands of New York City cats and dogs. Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s goal is to transform New York City into a no-kill community by 2015.
The largest adoption venues in NYC will be the Petco at Union Square on May 31 and Union Square Park on June 1. Here’s A LIST OF ALL THE GROUPS participating including the outer boroughs and Westchester County.
Of the 90 Rescue Groups involved I’d like to say a special shout out to BRONX TAILS They are a tiny group of brave volunteers who rescue and TNR in the Bronx where there is NO SHELTER. All their rescues are heroic. They currently have two brother Ernie and Odie up for adoption who could easily be long lost relatives of our Odin who was rescued from the Bronx. All our Cat Wisdom 101 cats are rescues by choice.
I spent time at my local shelter yesterday helping get cats ready for adoption. There is nothing more fulfilling than seeing a sad face behind the bars of a cage glow with hope. The best pets aren’t always the charming ones vying for attention. The shy, less than perfect ones with the saddest histories often make the happiest endings. Just look at our Cat Wisdom 101 cats.
