Feline Advice on Winning

Update: We’re revamping our website and will not be posting on Wednesday, April 3rd. See you on Thursday!

Thank-you to everyone who voted for our one-eyed boy Odin. He’s in the running for AmazeCat’s Next Top Cat. There are 8 groups of 4 cats totaling 32 cats. Odin will be competing against his friend Allie and two cats we’ve never heard of: Coco-Nut and Smoosh. Odin received 388 votes, Allie 340 votes, Coco-Nut 777 votes and Smoosh a whopping 1176! We’re back at square one with voting but we’re not optimistic about winning. To follow all the action, visit AmazeCats.com or at their Facebook page

The front runner is Little Bear with over 3000 votes and we feel it’s fun just having gotten this far. There are thousands of cat blogs and I see them as a microcosm of the competitive nature of life. We can’t all be at the top. We can’t always win. There will always be someone better and worse. I used to think it would be great to have 1000 Facebook fans but when I reached 5000, I wondered what 10,000 would be like. It never ends. Then there are the pages with 20,000, 50,000 or 100,000 +. If we compare, we’ll never be happy. Not with Facebook numbers, Twitter followers and any other number, prize or accolade.

What I’ve learned about blogging for five years (almost two at Cat Wisdom 101) is to stay true to your values. Know what you’re good at. Doing what you love shows. Do your best; keep learning, improving, sharing and don’t sweat it. It’s just a blog. Have fun!

Can you imagine our cats pulling their fur over numbers or winning? I think they’d laugh and say, “You silly humans, you’ve already won by simply living with a cat or three.”

We’re going to have a whole new look in a few days so please excuse our appearance as things are added and tweaked. If you Tweet, please follow us at @CatWisdom101. We’ll still be tweeting as @Boomermuse but mostly stuff from our other blog Boomer Muse.

  1. We voted for you! We’ve never won a single contest but we’re about the least competitive cats around. I’ve been painting portraits of animals for over 20 years when few others were, now everyone is. We just do our thing and enjoy everyone else’s thing. Makes more time for art and petting cats.

Can’t wait to see the new design!

  2. Sometimes the small, close knit colony of cats and their people is the best. We’re proud of you Odin and all of our other friends that are in the running too! We just like the small personal feel sometimes. Luvs Skeeter and Izzy >^..^<

  3. Congrats Odin. Still pulling for you on the contest. Cannot wait to see how your blog looks. So exciting.

  4. You are so right. Have fun, and know that you’re in the company of cats who love you … that’s the biggest kind of victory of all. 🙂

But we’ll still be voting for you and our other friends! MOL!

  5. Odin that is simply pawsome! Mom says that she has been blogging since 2005 and has posted nearly 3000 posts but we are still small potatoes and that’s OK. She started out simply as a means to an end which was journalling about our everyday life to keep memories of things. When she goes back and looks at some of the early posts she had forgotten many things. It’s sad we lost all of our comments from the early years but nothing we can do about that now. We love interacting as much as we can and we love being visited by our fellow cat lovers.

  6. dood…ewe bee a winner in R book N we due knot knead numbers ta tell uz sew… N a good thing two coz we stinked like skunk at math in skewl….

  7. actually we don’t like the word “competing” when referencing other cats so that is why Sparkle, Katie and I all linked to each other so that we can all get votes. Soooo on the next round, we just think votes are fun but we refuse to make it personal.

  8. This post is a good reality check. When I start to wonder and worry about lack of comments and traffic, I’ll go pet my cats and remember why I started to blog.
Odin in your life is the biggest gift the universe has to offer- and you for him.

PS But I’m still voting for you!

  9. Congrats Odin! We’re right there with you! We have no idea which cats are in our next bracket…we can’t squint hard enough to even read my own name, let alone everyone else’s!

We’re very excited to see your new look!!! So exciting!
