Feline Astrology: Understanding The Leo Cat

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

Leo cat astrology

Cats are mysterious and misunderstood creatures with complex characters. Astrology can help understand or decode their personalities. By dividing the feline personality into 12 distinct zodiac signs, we can understand cats at a deeper level. All cats like humans are unique and some combinations are more compatible than others. Astrology is based on knowing the exact day and time of birth but if you don’t know it, the zodiac or sun sign can be determined by a process of elimination. Some characteristics are obvious at first glance while others require more investigation.

The Leo Cat

Leo is the fifth sign of the zodiac for those born between July 23 and August 23. Leo’s element is fire, its metal is a shiny gold and its color is the fiery tones of a ginger tabby with copper eyes. Of all the zodiac signs only Leo the lion is the closest to the domestic cat. Leo is a masculine sign full of regal energy. Female Leos aren’t girly girls. No fussy, frilly anything and don’t even think about dressing them in a silly costume.

Leo the lion is the king or queen of the jungle and they’re easy to spot. You’ll notice them as soon as you enter their space even if that corner is a cage at the shelter. They’ll the most likely to bat a paw through cage bars to get your attention. Once adopted, your home is their domain which they rule with a loyal heart and velvet paw. They swagger into any room and demand to the the center of the universe. These cats aren’t slinking into the corner but rolling on the floor in the middle of the rug or spread out over your desk, newspaper or digital device. Of course you have oodles of photos of them on your phone and online. They probably have their own Facebook page and Twitter handle. Being innately social, they were born for social media and may already be blogging or secretly writing a book or viral video.

Proud and vain, they love being admired up on a pedestal but make sure it’s a tall, luxury scratching post or kitty condo. Any tall piece of furniture will do, an armoire or book shelves, as long as they can look down on you. When they want company, they’ll let you know with bulldozer headbutts and a rumble purr to wake the dead. Leos love being petted, massaged and even groomed. Their coats whether long or short are leonine and often have a distinctive ruff.

Make no mistake: everything about a Leo cat is larger than life. Even smaller felines appear bigger with their ability to floof out their fur and tail with bold strokes. They’re friendly, confident and loving but inevitably spoiled. Leo wants the finest food, treats and organic catnip and their minions gladly deliver. No one purrs louder, makes bigger figure-8′s around your ankles or bigger biscuits on your tummy than a Leo. Leo cats don’t sit, stand or lie down; they pose like Sphinxes, elegant and proud, their large eyes as dramatic as a Shakespearean actor. Hamlet is a purrfect name or Hammy, for their shameless need to be in the spotlight.

Whether long or short-haired Leos respond well to grooming. After all, they’re vain and want to look their best. If they jump and miss their mark, don’t laugh at them. A cat pent up becomes a lion and may show off their claws. They need lots of interactive play to keep their inner jungle cat at peace. As a fire sign ruled by the sun, Leos adore basking in the sun or sun puddle. In chilly weather (they don’t like the cold) they enjoy sitting by a crackling fire or under a cozy duvet or on top of your cashmere sweater. Leo are generous and get along well with other humans or pets but prefer to have their own bed, toys, dishes, litter box and not have to share. They of course expect to be the #1 cat regardless of how many other felines share their domain. A Leo cat truly is a little big cat with and if treated like a king or queen, all will be peaceful in your, I mean their kingdom.

Do you know any Leo cats? Our feline model is one of several Leonine cats available for adoption at the Westchester Humane Society. A recent arrival, a large, orange female doesn’t have a name yet, stole my heart. Being a Leo myself, I’m a little partial. A recent shelter spotlight named Gilbert fits the Leo purrsonaity to a T. I can’t believe this superstar hasn’t been adopted and he’s desperate behind bars.

Update: Gilbert was adopted soon after this post but there many other purrfect cats waiting for their forever home.

This describes my Luna to a T. I don’t know here exact birth date but had the feeling she was a Leo, this confirms it. I always said she’s a tomboy haha

This sounds like my DIVA/ DRAMA QUEEN Izzy. I’m not sure of her exact birthdate and her age was more than one would have thought on sight. She was feral kitten with bad food allergies stealing food from dogs and trtying not to be eaten and struggling to survive so she was way smaller than she normally would have been………but the Catitude…….HUGE!!!!

Absolutely nothing. One good thing is I have found out where Romeo came from and I actually know the people . They live on the street that deadends almost behind where I live. They had tried several times to get him in a carrier to get neutered and failed. When I was out looking for and calling for my baby they heard me and came outside. We were talking and Romeo (aka Sam) heard us and came down. I informed them that he has been neutered and they were so glad to hear that and also know that he was safe and still nearby. He is now a dual home cat.

At least some good came out of bad. In the U.K. where more homes have cat flaps, there are lots of dual home kitties.I pulled some cards about the situation but didn’t want to say anything without your permission. Sending hugs.

Thank you Layla. You can talk about this freely. It is a situation that may of us will face. I just wish I could find something. If you have any insight please share.

I am an Aries cat and don’t know any Leo cats. My mum is Leo though and is a pussycat until someone upsets her. If someone riles her, me and my dad run for cover.
