Shelter Volunteer #AdorableAdoptable Spotlight: Three Times The Charm

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

When cats are placed in foster homes we never know how long they may stay. Sometimes they never return and become happy failed fosters but more often than not, they return to the shelter setting. Hopefully the foster situation allows less adoptable cats to become more socialized and adoptable. This is the first time I’m featuring a cat for the third time. I’m really hoping three times is the charm for this #AdorableAdoptable.

Marco, a handsome tuxie was rescued five months ago by the New Rochelle Humane Society with 60+ other cats from a hoarding situation near our home. It’s the reason I began our weekly adoption spotlight to chronicle my experiences volunteering at the shelter. One of my fellow volunteer pals fell in love with Marco. She thought despite having endured a horrific time caged at the hoarders, he was perfectly adoptable. I agreed and featured him in June. There was no interest. The summer adoption lull began and everyone wanted kittens.

I featured Marco again in August. He was still in a cage but moved to another room. Still no takers.

Then he got lucky and was placed in a foster home where it was confirmed how fun and delightful he truly is. He’s back in the shelter in a small cage-free area with four lovely ladies. All but Coretta the tuxie queen of the Sunshine Room are from the hoarding situation. Eva, a sweet, dilute tortie, Mattie, a spunky tortie and Molly, a tuxie. All have transitioned nicely from cages. It could be worse for Marco but he’d much rather have a forever home alone or maybe with one of his gal pals?
