Caturday Cruelty to Kindness

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

Shrek and Smurf will need a great deal of expensive medical attention as they recover from the toxins absorbed from the marker into their skin. These babies (and they are only babies!) deserve the same chance at life, love, and health as any other kitten.

Gwen Cooper of Homer’s Heroes is taking up a collection for Shrek and Smurf’s rehabilitation and eventual rehoming. Right now BCWR has vet bills in excess of $6000–we’re hoping to raise a small piece of that. Click here to donate now!

To counter the cruelty, we’re celebrating the kindness of adopting. It’s National Tabby Day and our friend Sandy Robin is doing a book-signing for her new book. There will be a party and adoption event at Bidewee and Mayor’s Alliance. If you’re in the NYC area, you’re invited! We got a review copy of Making the Most of All Nine Lives: The Extraordinary Life of Buffy the Cat.

It’s an adorable mix of photos of Buffy, a photogenic and cooperative tabby taken by his cat dad, a retired dentist. The images are not photoshopped but skillfully staged with clever captions by Sandy Robins. Find out more about Buffy and his book at his official website Buffy The Cat

We always have a choice to shift from cruelty to kindness. April is the ASPCA Cruelty Prevention Month but let’s make it every month.

Cats make us smile every day and deserve to be celebrated for simply being their amazing selves. If haven’t entered our funny cat caption contest, leave your clever comment at our caption contest post.

oh my god, how utterly cruel. My very best wishes for these two kitties. The people responsible need to be drawn and quartered. Imprisoned.

I read on FB that it was children who ‘colored’ the kittens. I pray that it wasn’t done out of some deep dark terribleness and was somehow a tragic mistake. It’s hard NOT to hold adults responsible for this. But, I can only pray that these two will make it back to good health. It’s just awful.

My heart ached when I saw these precious babies who were saved from the dog fight ring but have to suffer the toxins of the markers going into their precious baby skin……they are absolutely precious and innocent and the people who did this are incredibly cruel but of course they don’t care……heaven only knows how many other kittens have been sacrificed this way by these same people before they were discovered and the kittens saved. It’s just beyond all reason……..I hope they get the help they need AND a forever home where they can only know love for the rest of their lives. Bless those who saved them……….

    Hugs, Pam (and Sammy)

All the more reason why animal cruelty and abuse need to be felonies. The people that do these things have no feelings nor emotions. They are a threat to society and humans as well as animals. Cold, calculating, greedy monsters and sadly until they are perceived and treated as such it never ends..
We celebrate all that work to end this evil. Like Ellen we patrol and keep our eyes open for any hint of something going on. We all have to report anything that doesn’t look right, sound right or feel right.
THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE THAT CARE!!!!!!!!

how evil people can be…. I always thought it is a wild rumor to use cats as a “bait”, but I sadly had to learn that this is true…. what goes on in the head of such people? I think the police should watch creatures with such evil thoughts they can be ticking time bombs… thanks to the police and to BCWR for rescuing Shrek&Smurf…

Those poor kitties. Makes me so angry and upset. I just feel like crying when I see all this torture. But you are right, there are also some amazing people that help make this cruel world a better place and we must all do all we can.

    Purrs xx

I am always on the watch for things like this. I live in an area where people do cruel things, I head count all the ferals and will drive around and look and ask people if I dont see them for a day… I also try and educate but some are so cruel life means little.
    This stuff hurts my heart.
I wish I could donate, but all of my resources are going to spay/neuter .
    Everyday should be cruelty prevention.

I loathe cruelty to any living being… but I do think it is better to focus on the good humans do, rather than on the bad. What you focus on, multiplies.
