Cat Wisdom 101 Top 10 Cat Books of 2012
We are thrilled to announce the first annual Cat Wisdom 101 Editor’s Choice, Top 10 Cat Book Award. In 2012, I reviewed over 100 books (at two blogs) and easily read twice that number. About half were cat books and of those, half were very good. My choices for the top 10 include fiction and nonfiction and are listed in the order they were reviewed. All would make excellent choices as gifts for cat lovers. The list includes links to the original reviews. Please consult the reviews as some books are not suitable for children.
There are more wonderful cat books than ever, and I look forward to sharing the latest and best ones with you in 2013. Congratulations to our Top 10!
1) The Dalai Lama’s Cat by David Michie
2) I Could Pee On This by Francesco Marciuliano
3) A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen
4) The Cat’s Meow by Darlene Arden
5) Julia’s Cats by Patricia Barey and Therese Burson
6) Paw Prints in the Moonlight aka Paw Tracks in the Moonlight by Denis O’Connor
7) Cat Daddy by Jackson Galaxy with Joel Derfner
8) The French Cat by Rachael Hale

Cats are endlessly inspiring as all these books prove! – Author Janette of the cat book “In Defense of Cats!”
Kat & the Teenage Mutant Ninja Kitty Horde
Did you read daily dose of dogs aka cats with your coffee by Chrystal Parker? It’s a bound version of her blog of the same name for its first year. It’s an amazing story of a woman running a private rescue of cats, but “only the ones that cross our paths”! It’s amazing how many cross her path, how she manages to build a cat house for them, a walkway as a memorial for those of us who have lost loved ones (and a fundraiser for the kitties!) and provide a number of us great Forever Friends!! One of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Kitties is a Winnie’s Wish cat and her story is in this book, which I can heartily recommend. Even though I read this blog in real time I still enjoyed rereading it all at once in a bound version (okay, I admit it, you need tissue and chocolate too!!).

We loved loved loved the Dalai Lama’s cat and we need to do a review on that! Sigh. So many posts. So little time (according to the woman. I have all the time in the world).

Chey, you must tell the Woman to do the review. Love that you loved it!

Thanks so much for this list. Was looking for a good read to carry me through some down time. Hey, but if anyone wants a gift book, small, affordable, to present as a stocking stuffer/secret santa/or hostess gift, perhaps they can check out my Cat Confessions: A Kitty Come Clean Tell All Book

It’s a great list but I would have had to have made it at least the Top 20. I have read a number of these (and they ARE great) but I have also reviewed many others this year that aren’t on this list that I think should be.

Caren, it was really hard to narrow it down to 10 but 20 was too big. Are you making your own list year?

Pawsome list! We have several of them and love it when the mom reads to us!

I loved Cat Daddy and Julia’s Cats. I Could Pee on This is so funny, read it in minutes. Some that I am surprised didn’t make the list are Buckley’s Story and Purrs of Wisdom by Ingrid King. Also I’m surprised that A Cat Who Came Back For Christmas by Julia Romp wasn’t on there, I’m not done reading it yet, but so far it’s an incredible book.

The top 10 list is compiled only from books I’ve read and reviewed. Not all books I read are reviewed. Thanks for your suggestions.
