Angels, Cats & Art

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

History is filled with folklore about cats. One of the most charming stories comes from Russia. They say that if there is at least one cat on the roofs of any town, it means angels are there to protect all those who live there.

For those of us who think cats are angels, it’s not a stretch for the imagination.

No artist paints the cat/angel connection better than contemporary Russian artist Vladimir Rumyantsev. Born in St. Petersburg in 1957, Rumyantsev began drawing at the age of four. He attended the Serov Art School, received his art degree in 1976 and continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts graduating in 1986. His preferred medium is watercolor and his work is found in collections worldwide.

Despite extensive Internet research, I could not find a link to an agent, gallery or representative of his work. He did a special project for the Hermitage and his work deserves to be more widely appreciated.
