Vintage Cats, Pokemon Go & I Could Pee On This Too.
What could those three things have in common? The world is getting curiouser and curiouser as the Cheshire cat in Alice in Wonderland said. Read on to find out.
Since no one came up with cat caption for last week’s contest, we had to take matters into our own hands. How could we resist poking some fun at the latest fad, Pokemon Go? Or as Grumpy Cat calls it, Pokemon NO! We must be either the biggest fuddy duddies or clever monkeys because we’re not playing.
Are you playing Pokemon Go? Curious cats wanna know because if it’s more fun than our caption contests, we’ll try something new.
But before we exit vintage Catlandia, we’re having another go at a family scene from long, long ago in a galaxy far away, when cameras weren’t instant and selfies might have seemed selfish. This week’s feature is based on an image by Louis Wain who enjoyed fame and fortune at the turn of the century. A hundred years later, his work is more popular than ever with fresh insights about the original crazy cat man.
This video shows how his anthropomorphized cats turned from cute to psychedelic as his symptoms of schizophrenia progressed.
Comedy and tragedy are kissing cousins. It’s why so many comedians have a sad or dark side. It’s also why we find it funny when life catastrophes are shared in a safe container. It’s one of many topics I discussed last night with cartoonist and bestselling author, Francesco Marciuliano. We hung out at an outdoor bar for three hours on a hot New York evening. On ass-numbing uncomfortable bar stools and only checked our phones once. That’s got to be a record for New York.
I can’t say his humor rubbed off on me, but I will say his long awaited sequel,I Could Pee On This Toois as funny as I Could Pee On This.Something must have resonated with cat lovers since it’s sold over a million copies. Look for the sequel, out August 16 and more news about it here.
But for now, let’s go to the beach and think funny or the flip side. Leave your captions in a comment or share with someone who enjoys a bit of silliness.
Luv the caption! This Pokemon Go is just another thing to encourage the stupid to display it. …..go figure. Luvs Skeeter and Izzy & the Feral Gang + Twig & Peanut & Romeo & the Angels >^..^^..^<~
We love your vintage captions and what people come up with, the Pokemon one is perfect. I will admit to downloading it out of curiosity, but became cross eyed trying to figure out how it all worked. I guess it’s a sign of middle age as ‘Neko Atsume’ is about the only game I play. Maybe there is a correlation between cat lovers not being Pokemon types, but I think it’s a generational thing. My twenty something assistants who grew up with Pokemon are in to it, and anyone older I have yet to meet who is. It is too hot to run about anyway, especially with my ravaged lungs. I hope you all are well and enjoying your summer.
Mommy had a Pokemon player walk into the side of her car yesterday…Wes don’t gets it at all! And our caption for the picture is “TUNA!” Tee! Hee! Kisses Nellie
Your caption is purrfect! We don’t “get” the Pokémon crazy thing – Mom says she thinks she’s just too darn old. HAHAHA As for captions for this week’s vintage photo: “Smile – we’ll put this one in our memory book” – the kitten in the water is saying “to heck with photos – help! I don’t know how to swim” !
LOL, your caption is super! Love modern culture on the vintage image. Pokemon Go doesn’t interest me but I’ve heart it’s quite addictive! Have a fun weekend 🙂
Oh boy, can’t wait for that book! Captions: “Come on, kittens, Look my way so I can get a picture!” “But we’re kittens, we don’t ever look at cameras! Unless you don’t want us to!” Ok, that’s probably too long for the thought bubbles, but that’s all I can think of! 🙂

That makes two of us! And, so true about kittens.

You came up with a good caption 🙂 I don’t understand the popularity of Pokemon go.
Layla Morgan Wilde
Thanks and that makes two of us. I blogged about it at Boomer Muse.

With the exception of the last ones, we liked the post ones better. They look like some the cat colorings that our friends do.
Layla Morgan Wilde
C.K. can you explain which ones you like better?

Ha, good one. I don’t think you’re too old but maybe too smart. I don’t know the demographics but there are baby boomers playing.
The Swiss Cats
We love you caption ! We don’t play Pokemon Go either (Pixie prefers to play Birdie Go in real life, MOL ). Purrs

Thanks and glad to hear it 🙂

My human says there is a fine line between genius and madness… although I think she just uses that as a way to explain away her quirks.

We’re all mad here then with an I.Q. of 145.

Thanks Tamago. What’s interesting is that not one of our readers are playing Pokemon Go. Maybe cat lovers know something better 🙂
