Mondays With Merlin: Starting Over Sucks
If you’re a subscriber or saw our last post, you know we lost all posts since Sept. 21. Our website had a major restore (4 times!) but they could not restore those dozen posts. That includes all my birthday posts, all your loving comments Layla and I treasure. Thank goodness there are some cached files but most of the comments and shares, poof, gone! Starting over sucks, but we’ve begun to replace the missing posts best we can. That’s virgin territory for even an old cat like me, so bear with us. Any advice welcome. Even all the images from those posts disappeared so the replacements may not be the same ones. Actually, there are some new ones which are cool. Silly Layla smartened up and will send back-ups of the website to more than one remote location from now on.
Honestly, I’m getting a bit old for all the drama. Between the colder weather, my last bath ( well at least sun-drying outdoors), Layla leaving me to gallivant in the city and being picked up in big, black cars, and the whisker curling website shenanigans, it was very stressful at our house. Odin did his drooly biscuit-making thing on our dad. First time ever! Yes, we have the coolest dad. And, yes, that Odin is a sucky baby. He doesn’t really care about me. It’s no fun being old and smelly but he’s still young and we all know youth is wasted on the young.
I’m not the least bit interested in 404s, redirects, permalinks, SEO, alt tags, and other web thingie talk filling the air. I just want to snuggle under the covers or walk in the garden. I wandered over to Gris Gris’s grave and Layla had the nerve to suggest a spot for me by the bench. She asked my opinion and it’s a nice enough spot but it’s like buying cemetery plots in advance, don’t you think? Some might call it practical or is is morbid? And yes, I’m looking Halloween skeletal, sigh…

Hey there I am so happy I found your web site, I really found you by accident, while I was searching on Digg for something else, Nonetheless I am here now and would just like to say thanks for a incredible post and a all round exciting blog (I also love the theme/design), I donít have time to read through it all at the moment but I have book-marked it and also added your RSS feeds, so when I have time I will be back to read much more, Please do keep up the excellent work.

Sweet soul nephew, how awful so many special thoughts and words from those who love you were lost. This happened to me once when the cloud on my phone was erased by mistake and I lost hundreds of precious photos and videos of my fur babies.
I was able to retrieve some that had been shared on Facebook and with friends and family, but it was devastating losing all the ones no one had.
I can understand your annoyance with your younger fur sibs not understanding the worth and strength offered by seniors. The young do not appreciate the knowledge and experience that accompany age and often feel invincible with their health, aging, etc. I don’t think the intention or lack of interest/attention is not meant to insult or hurt us, we just have to remember with age comes wisdom and those who have wisdom rock!
Never underestimate or question the treasure you are darling nephew, for in my heart you will forever be.

Oh rats! Losing all those posts is a pain in the tail. It’s a good lesson in figuring out how to back up posts.

We are very sorry you lost all those posts, Merlin and Layla. We hope that the positivity of the loving comments left by so many friends will live on in your hearts, even if you don’t remember the exact phrasing of each and every one. Much love to you.

Old cats needn’t worry about the internets. You go enough on your mind.
You look good, you feel good, youre even still snarky and those are all positive things.
You know that place by the bench isnt all that bad, it would give your LayLa a place to sit and think oof you. I have a feeling when she thinks, she might havve some mist in her eyes sometimes, and you know how tough it is when you cant see. Mull it over, you would be doing herr a favor. Nothing wrong with shopping around though before you settle on one spot, its not like anything is happening soon.
Love seeing you every Monday .

Merlin all that webstuff is super duper stressful for our humans.
But you have the right idea and we know how disappointing it is to lose comments. When blogspot went to their own comments (you used to have to have a 3 party widget for comments) then we lost ALL of ours up to that point which is like 3 or 4 years worth. So we do understand. But then it’s gone POOF and over. NO need really to stress just move on and go to the next thing.

So sorry this happened Merlin – your birthday posts and photos are priceless especially at this time of your life so I’m really SAD about that. Love the photo of Odin biscuit-making on your Dad though – that’s sweet! Merlin, you’re a wonder…….I think you will leave on your own terms AND I think you will guide Mom Layla to whatever spot your heart desires in that garden to be your final resting place but not for a LONG TIME…….we need you spreading your magic dear friend!
Hugs, Sammy

Merlin, that’s so sad that all the wonderful memories are gone with the wind… or gone with the web…
