Mancat Monday: True Friends
Welcome to another Mancat Monday with Merlin and Domino. We’re old friends, loyal and true. You may not know but during all those years when Domino remained fiercely feral and chose to live outdoors, he was my friend. We weren’t cuddle buddies then. More like arm’s length acquaintances. For a very long time he wouldn’t let anyone near him especially humans. Gradually we spent more time hanging out and eventually I helped convince him about the merits of life indoors. Through out it all, harsh winters, tick infestations, infected wounds, Domino remained my friend. When I turned blind and ill Domino was always there for me and still is. Cats are choosy who they select as friends whether they have two legs or four. We’re sharing a few recent moments of our friendship. Domino wrote the text. He’s a cat of few words but it makes up for my chattiness.
Our brother Odin is a good friend but he’s more of a loner. We’re happy to report he’s fully recovered from his ankle injury. We’re not so happy to report our pawrents had to rescue a baby bunny from his naughty mouth. Perhaps he had no intentions to kill it but he surely enjoyed the wild goose chase leading the humans into the poison ivy patch. He’d drop bunny, wait. pick up shrieking bunny and repeat deeper and deeper into the bushes while humans are shrieking with brooms to let go. Finally, Layla in bare legs, braved the prickly brambles and poison ivy into the underbrush where a panting and deliriously happy Odin let the bunny go and let himself be picked up like the King of Siam and carried indoors for dinner. Rabbit was not on the menu.
Tell us who your true friends are.

Kitties Blue
Wildlife has found it’s way to our doorstep three days in a row, but none of us are ratting any of the others out, so we guess deep down we are all friends, even if we don’t show it day to day. Sure glad that bun got away. (Mom told us to say that!) XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

Firstly, it’s too bad that rescue wasn’t caught on video!!!
We think the biggest buddies here are the twins and Johnny…where there’s one, there’s all three.

You boys are true friends. And Mom Layla is a true friend to that bunny.

Layla, glad to hear( your reply to previous comment) that you’re OK from bunnie saving! They have a horrible screetch when scared! I used to housesit for a Cow cat named Trouble, who had a cat door. I got very good at catching ground squirrels and bunnies he brought in. I missed the time he brought a snake in, THANK COD!!
Kinda wish someone had taped your bunnie being rescued Odin!!
The friendship story is so wonderful, as are all the photos!
Sadly , I lost my truest human friend to natural causes August 22. Elvira loved me for who I am, never tried to change me and absolutely loved our kitties. She and her daughter, Dawn, would sit in the car when they came home and watch the kitties in the window. This us also my 1st close friend I’ve ever lost, so it’s doubly hard.
People like Elvira are rare and she is missed. She would have loved these blogs if she had ever entered the computer world! She spoiled our kitties rotten, and they loved her for it.
Thank you for a Wonderful post!

Connie Marie, I’m so sorry for you loss of dear friend Elvira. Sending you (((hugs))) of comfort during your grieving time.

It is amazing what friends do for one another!

Domino and Merlin have really a special bond ! Mum says that Angel Céleste and Angel Hercule had a special bond, sadly for a too short time. It looks like the rabbit had a special bond with Layla for a while 😉 ! Purrs

What a sweet post. I found a dead rabbit in my yard a couple weeks ago 🙁 I’m sure Truffles watched the kill from her window seat but she’s not fingering the killer.

Such sweet photos of Merlin and Domino! They are really wonderful friends!

I’m glad there was no rabbit-ragout at the menu list. I hope your mom’s legs are ok, it’s not really funny to walk through brambles and poison ivy. And I’m so happy that your ankle is ok, Odin. Have a super monday!

We’re happy to report the rabbit gods rewarded Layla with no scratches or itches.

That bunny has a true friend in Layla! 🙂
The Island Cats
It’s good to have a true friend to hang out with. Here, me and Wally are friends, but we’re not quite true friends since we do get into squabbles from time to time.
Flynn
It is nice to have a special true friend. Eric was not just my brother but my true friend too.

About 18 years ago, while I was sitting in the family room nursing my infant son, my cocker spaniel, Brady, came to me wagging so hard his entire body wiggled and smiling” as only deliriously happy dogs can. He often brought me stray feathers from the backyard so I thought nothing over much about it. Suddenly he looked mildly concerned and dropped the so-called feather. There on the arch of my bare foot sat a very slobbered on baby bird. The little sparrow wasn’t injured just very damp. Lucky for our feathered friend, Brady had a very “soft mouth”. After leaving Young Miss Sparrow on the top of the cold grill to dry of, she eventually flew away. I always though it was her that built a nest in the rafters above the grill the next summer. Brady was one of the best friends I ever had and even though he’s been gone since 2003, I still miss him everyday.

Dorothy, what a wonderful story. I bet it was the same grateful sparrow! Best friends stay in our hearts forever.
Sometimes Cats Herd You
Way to go, Odin! We hope that Layla doesn’t get too bad a reaction to the poison ivy. Around here, friends fight over the occasional lizard that gets into the house, and usually that helps the lizard get away.

I have never admitted to the peep that I have caught a rabbit, so she still doesn’t know! She does know about all the voles and birdies though!! 🙁 The relationship between Domino and Merlin is very special! Mine with Tigger is not so special as neither of us are feral, but it is true, we are very choosy about our friends!
Sammy
Oh dearie me…….well, those little bunnies certainly can shriek can’t they. Sam’s never caught one thank heavens but we’ve heard them before and they sound so VERY pitiful. Odin just couldn’t resist I suppose! Merlin and Domino look like good pals…..that’s great that Dom is keeping a close eye on Merlin. We send hugs and love to everyone!

I had rabbit-flavored cat food for dinner – and I ate the whole can! Should I feel guilty?
