Do Cats Prefer Fishy Flakes or Gefilte Fish?
It’s Friday and if you’re a Christian, today is Good Friday and if you’re Jewish it’s the first day of Passover but if you’re a cat, well…
Does your cat belong to a religion? If so, which one? We are joking about feeding your gefilte fish which is made from white fish, egg, salt and matzo meal (flour/water). It little nibble won’t hurt as a treat but not as a meal.
Our fur gang believes in the path of peace and religious tolerance. Passover can be an issue for observant Jews with pets. The following list includes cat food considered Kosher for Passover.

Our cats have a mouse toy that has “TRAYF” stitched into the back. We kind of figured cats are cats, and they know they are above all of our rules and laws anyway. MOL

Oh we needs to have one of those!

We are all spiritual. We don’t subscribe to any one religion. We believe in cat! 🙂

Ok I am Jewish so I will say this. Making a cat observe Passover food requirements to me is just ridiculous. Super observant Jews will hate me for saying that but oh well, I said it!
Cats don’t care!
That being said, it was kind of you to post a list of Kosher for Passover cat food…”WHO KNEW???”

Actually, it has nothing to do with what we can and can’t eat. We canz eat anything! MOL, we loves traif mousies!
Mommy told us it has to do with getting all the chametz out of the house.
She does follow that tradition but doesn’t go that far. (we’re grain free mostly anyway, except for silly Allie and her pink food * eye roll*)

Well we have had any of those treats. So I guess we are all right. Hope you have a great week end, no matter what you celebrate.

I used to give my cats bonito flakes, until the day they learned how to get them out of the cabinet and ate the whole darn $8 bag in one sitting! MOL.

Fortunately, as Goddess, I have no need of kosher cat food. And I love my fishy flakes!!!

while my cats are keeping quiet about their spiritual beliefs, seafood is off the menu as one of them is allergic.

Well now I’ve never had either of those! I wonder why that is?

Well, we’ve been made think about something that has never crossed our minds. We knew about the fish not being so great for us and we knew about the religious food requirements for both faiths but we had never thought about that in relation to our feline brethern. Thank you Layla for provoking thought on a subject that we never considered. Hoppy Easter to all Skeeter and Izzy >^,,^< thoughtful eyes….

Regardless of whether it’s kosher or not, fish should only be fed in moderation. Sadly, much of the fish that goes into pet food is contaminated with heavy metals and other toxins. (On a side note, that is also true for fish sold for human consumption.) Fish used in pet food manufacturing often contains whole fish, guts and bones, which can increase phosphorus levels of the food. This can be a problem for cats with kidney disease. Some cats are sensitive to fish-based diets and develop urinary tract problems that resolve when fish is removed from their diet.
There’s nothing wrong with an occasional fishy treat – just don’t make it the bulk of your cat’s diet.

Agreed and this post was written as a joke.

I realized that, but you know me: I never miss an opportunity to educate people about good nutrition 🙂

Ingrid, mommy wants to know if it’s okay for us to have a nibble of gefilte fish if she roasted it in a pan with onions and garlic… But threw them away once the fish loaf cooked?

Wow, it never occurred to me that Kosher cat food might be necessary! But it totally makes sense.

Aaaahhh….fish…I love fish…tuna, pilchard, salmon, trout, sardines….I love them all. Some of Purina cans are not kosher as they contain meat of porcine origin. My Mama would spend hours reading the ingredients listed on the labels. purrr…meow!

Have a great weekend. I look forward to a super Easter dinner. Need to buy some Euro chocolate, because I loathe the cheap Easter candy and chocolate. Planning on Montreal about May 5-10 to take lots of photos for my travel application.

ha. Yes, cats loove fish We give our cats fish rarely, usually either some tuna water in their kibble (rarely) with a few pieces of white tuna, or some Friskies fish flavors.
