Amazing Grace, The Coliby Cat

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

There are millions of homeless cats who need homes and perhaps like you, I love looking at photos of cats online. I must see hundreds of cats of every day: funny cats, unusual cats, pampered cats, grumpy cats and more. So what is it that captivates our attention about one special cat that makes us go, “That one! Oh, that one is my mine.”

It’s like dating and falling in love. You just know. Sometimes we fall for the handsome ones or the princesses with a pedigree but more often it’s something else. We fall in love with some quirk, a look in their eye, their charm, a larger than life character or perhaps because a disability like missing limbs or eyes.

My mother always said there’s a lid for every pot and I think that’s true about cats. Sometimes we actively search for a kitty soulmate and sometimes they appear out of nowhere when we least expect it. With a blink of their eyes and swish of their tail, they announce: Here I am. Take me home already! I’ve been waiting for you a long time.

One cat captured my attention recently and I’d like to share a little about her.

Every cat has a story but shelter cats have an extra wrinkle in their life history. Grace is a six-year-old emerald-eyed beauty with a captivating gaze tinged with sadness. Those eyes have known love, companionship of a male guardian and another cat but she was surrendered a month ago to the PAWS shelter in Norfolk, Connecticut when her guardian became homeless.

Despite losing her home and loved ones Gracie hasn’t given up on love. She loves belly rubs to be petted and rolls over when someone talks to her. She slept in bed with her last person and spent a great deal of time next to him on the couch. She sleeps in a cage now but will change if someone falls in love with her. She likes toys but prefers to lounge over play. She would probably prefer a calmer, household without younger children, simply because that is what she is used to and comfortable with. Grace is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped.

Grace is a stunning example of a Caliby a cat with a mix of Calico and tabby with large patches of white.Other names for this color pattern are Patterned Calico Cat, Calico Tabby Cat, Torbie and White Cat, Patched Tabby and White Cat.

Whatever you want to call her, she’s a available. View her profile at Paws or visit PAWS on Facebook. PAWS is fortunate to have some amazing volunteers including noted artist/illustrator Maggie Swanson who gave me permission to post her photos. She blogs about volunteering at her blog Sundays at the Shelter

Amazing Update: Grace has been adopted!

Such a sweetheart… these stories are so sad, because you can’t just explain to a cat like a human why certain things happen in the blink of an eye. Thankfully the volunteers at PAWS are angels and I am sure they are doing their best to keep Gracie at ease. I hope she finds a happy and content new furever home soon…

It is always the saddness in the eyes that tells the story…..this is heartbreaking on so many levels. I just don’t know what I would do if I ever had to face losing my babies. I pray that Gracie finds the home that she needs and the comfort and security that she has lost and that her person finds that as well. We say our prayers and purrs every night for all animals to find the protection, love, care, food, shelter and peace that they all deserve and that we as humans can find it in ourselves to do the right things and to help all that need it. Luvs and purrs of hope and peace Skeeter and Izzy >^..^<

Oh you are so right. We sure do hope this lovely little lady finds her new soulmate and forever home very soon.
We feel deep sorrow for her former companion who is now homeless and without her because it must have been heartbreaking to have to give up sweet Grace.

I know the feeing of cat love at first sight! 3 years ago thi July my hubby and I went to the shelter to adopt. We both wanted an adult cat. The first and only cat I looked at was a siamese/tortie girl who was huddled in the back of her cage. A nice lady from a siamese rescue was checking on her, but unable to take her. I asked about her personality and was told she was a very sweet cat! After getting her out of her cage it was love at first hold! I named her “Cheesecake!” She is as sweet as her name, quirky and not to mention the lap cat I have always wanted! Gracie will make one human very lucky!

So sad. She looks like she is desperately missing her human. I know he must be missing her too. This brought a tear to my eye. I hope she finds a forever home. She is gorgeous. Layla, thanks for sharing her story and pictures with us. 🙂

We sure hope she finds a home. It truly saddens me to think of how many like her are in such need of a family.
