Millennial Cat Lovers Right Meow Infographic
Millenials cat lovers
are over-taking the baby boomers as the largest group of cat owners and they’re different. Purina surveyed millennials in the United States (age range 18-34) in October 2015 to find out how this younger generation feels about cats and this infographic tells all. It’s not too shocking but the gender distinction wrankles me a bit. Why do men get to be Cat Men while women are still cat ladies or crazy cat ladies? And only 60% watch cat videos? I thought it was 110% 😉 I do love that a whopping 86% feel their cat is loyal which mean the stereotypes of cats being sneaky are shifting.
How do you feel about these stats and millennial cat lovers?
When I attended the recent Purina Better With pets summit, one of panelists was Purina behaviorist Sandra Lyn. She explains why cats are appealing to millennials.“People like cats because they are great pets – they provide comfort to their owners and with appropriate socialization they can be warm and friendly,” said “In addition, they don’t need to be taken on walks or for bathroom breaks and they’re generally happy doing their own thing, though they do like attention and cuddling. These personality traits could be a factor as to why cats are growing in popularity among millennials – cats are a great fit for their busy lifestyles.”

The Funny thing is all this is the same for Bunny owners too.And there was a study done on women who own rabbits.they found the these women were much calmer and suffered less stress and had lower heart rates. They also found that having rabbits to hold and pet whilst having your GP(Doctor) appointment significantly lowered heart rates and calmed the patient too.I know all pets can do this to a point but it seems with rabbits it’s more significant in the results of the study.xx Rachel

Our aunt is a millenial, our Mom is called Generation X and both consider themselves cat women whose cat is their best friend. We agree with your observation about ‘crazy cat ladies’ vs ‘cat men’ and feel it is a mysoginistic stereotype of society. The fact that there are more and more millenial males who identify as cat men and do so proudly is a good sign that this view can and is changing, especially with female millenials are speaking up and redefining what is to be a woman who loves cats.
The use of infographics and memes in social media is also an important factor in views amongst millenials as it is providing them with important pet guardianship education like the need for yearly vet exams, etc..
We are optimistic the future is looking good for cats! And optimism is scarce these days when it comes to the future outlook of the world. :-/

Very interesting infographic.

I only heard the term millennial recently to describe that age group. In fact, I didn’t know any except baby boomers (of which I am one)! It’s good to know the young things know a good thing when they see it!!

That’s interesting!. I wonder if it’s not catching on in the U.K. yet?
The Swiss Cats
Those are very interesting infographics ; we hope all these people are aware of what a cat needs to be happy as well. Purrs

Oh, how interesting. We can see that cats would be a good fit for that age group. Probably most live in apartments with less space and don’t have the time for lots of dog walking. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

Interesting food for thought…
or kibble for cogitation.
I’m happy that they seem to value cats. I hope this means cats are getting yearly wellness visits to the vets.

Sounds like my two millennials. I always considered myself to be a cat lady (cat woman) and I think the millennials have embraced the reality cat lovers always had.

It’s good to know the stats fit your two.

My mom tells me all secrets too and I think a cat will keep that secret forever and ever… they are THE soulmates >:o) and I’m glad that so much people share the adventures of their feline friends via social medias… that’s a little like having a kittie too :o)
Layla Morgan Wilde
But will you keep her secrets ;-)?

I don’t think it’s a fad but there will always be some pet owners who adopt for the wring reasons. The more education the better.
The Island Cats
We’re glad to see that many millennials are choosing cats as their pet of choice!
Sometimes Cats Herd You
We just read recently that cat are the pets of choice for millennials. These are great infographics explaining why! We know that millennials take a lot of heat from some of the earlier generations, but if they love cats, they must be OK.

Agreed and infographics are an easy way to digest info, created by them.
