Secret Lives of Cats
If it’s Saturday…
Caturday fun? When it comes to cats don’t believe everything you see.
Think you know cats? Think again. We are the cats of Cat Wisdom 101 and if you promise not to tell anyone, we’ll spill a few secrets.
1) We let our mom Layla think we are trained. No cat is ever 100 % trained.
2) When you think we are having ordinary catnaps, we’re actually plotting world domination or at least how to get more treats.
3) It’s not an accident that throughout history writers and artists of all kinds have lived with cats. All their ideas comes from us.
4) We have secret lives. Yes, all of us. We’ll share a few today. When Odin goes romping in the garden, he stalks and hunts but the truth is…
When Gris Gris sunbathes as he did this week, at every opportunity, he thinks deep thoughts like…
He hypnotizes Layla into leaving her Greek Yogurt on the porch so he can indulge his favorite treat. Domino looks on thinking, “Dude, yogurt? When there are mice? Don’t go all wussy on me now.”
If you haven’t figured out who is writing, this will give you a hint.
Yes, it’s me, Merlin and I’ve enjoyed my daily walks even more knowing that cold weather is around the corner. I don’t like the cold, never did, but cats don’t worry about the change of season. What is, is. Never under estimate a cat. After seven years of being a feral porch cat, Domino is demanding daily deep massage and ear skritches. He even wandered inside this week loudly demanding his dinner. Layla has set up a bed, litter, food and water inside the entry hall in anticipation of him sleeping indoors as soon as it gets colder.
Just don’t ask him what he’s thinking; he plays his cards close to his chest.
Do your cats have any secrets to share? This weekend marks Yom Kippur, the Canadian Thanksgiving and Columbus Day. Have I left anything out? Oh yeah, every day is beautiful if you share it with a cat.
Haven’t entered our caption contest yet? You have until Tuesday evening.

My dear, wise cat furriends, you have left no wise stone unturned in your appreciation for us felines. I’m glad someone finally had the chutzpaw to say these things. Artists and writers could not have be inspired without us and I’m glad you brought that up. Just ask my human. I inspired her fiction. She would be nothing without me…maybe..(just kidding)
Hugs,

The cat training part is so true! Having previously always been a dog owner, I successfully trained Mr Darcy and Sookie to sit on command, which means I find it easier to get them to take pills, sit for grooming etc. As this was so successful I then moved on to teaching Mr Darcy to give me a paw to say please for a treat – I just wanted to see if we could do it! Mr Darcy learned this quite quickly, then realised that instead of giving the paw to me, he could simply grab my hand (holding the treat) with his paw and pull it towards him. Now if he wants a treat he taps my hand with his paw. I think on this one HE trained ME.
I love my clever kitties though… wouldn’t have it any other way 🙂

LOL Odin the superhero! Of course he is 🙂
Ah secrets. What do they know that they’re not telling us? Well if we knew, they’d have no superiority anymore, that’s for sure.

I think my cats are related to that Bertram cat from Cravendale- they’re always plotting to take over the world.

Oh Dom, we are so glad to see you all happy and actually going inside a little bit.We hope you can get inside this winter out of the bitter cold. Good boy Gris Gris on helping yourself to that yogurt. What a good idea.
We are now thinking that Mahoney may have had ‘Limping calici’ from all the symptoms that she had . We are just hoping and praying that she gets better.

We will tell you a tiny secret: No Cat is ever 2% trained, let alone 100%. We’re stubborn that way.
Hurrah for Domino! He’s come a long way this summer.

If I told you my secret life, how could it be secret?

Great story Merlin!! We have known these secrets for years and really enjoyed reading about them from your point of view!! Perhaps our Rolz and your Odin could be a new super hero duo like Batman and Robin – they both seem driven by world domination and treats!!

Yes, cats are very mysterious beings! I love the look on the face of the kitty in the last photo. Cats’ expressions are seriously funny! Happy Caturday, Layla and kitties!

I’m so happy to hear Domino actually came inside on his own! I so hope this will finally be the winter he decides that being inside with the rest of the gang will be a good idea.
Mr Puddy

Aww, Merlin is such a great writer. Dom Dom is a mystery and that is why I love him. Gris Gris and yogurt! My husband loves Greek Yogurt, too. I love just vanilla or strawb lowfat.
Cats are THEE most perfect creature EVER.
Ched has now warmed up to Stephen and no longer thinks of him as a big, galumpy college boy who’s rarely here, but now as a big, warm guy who loves to pet him, because Stephen is always here. Stephen has also discovered Mao’s spot for belly rubbing.
I predict you will have a new girl kitty before Jan 1.
