Our New Eco-Friendly Cat House
There’s never a dull moment at the Cat Wisdom 101 headquarters, especially when we get deliveries in cardboard boxes. It’s always a win win situation. The humans get what’s inside the box and the cats get the box. But what happens when there’s box within a box? That’s what happened when we found out we’d won a special cat teepee from our friends Caren and Cody at http://opcatchat.blogspot.com/
We’ve never met a cat who didn’t like the sight, smell or texture of cardboard. Odin immediately sniffed out the possibilities.
I quickly assembled the teepee but needed a degree in IKEA assembly 101 to figure out the little ball toys (I never did). We did figure out some other good stuff like: this is one of many recycled cardboard products from a Canadian company called Boutique-Cascades The company has partnered with designers of this teepee, which happen to be two young industrial designers from my home town of Montreal. Vive la belle province! They have a super cool website of other pet-related priducts Loyal Luxe and ship to the U.S. and Canada.
Odin wasted no time checking out his new eco-friendly digs, but I thought it looked too minimalist, like an empty page in coloring book. There were endless possibilities but I decided to transform it into Camp Cat Wisdom 101. With a few brush strokes, the teepee transformed into something any camper would love. I included all camp members names inscribed on the sides.
A few minutes later… voila, new look and a new occupant. Ling Ling had slipped inside and demanded…
“Wisdom” of course and if you’re smart you’ll get a teepee for your kitty. The also have “log cabins”. If you don’t want to buy one; get creative with other boxes, lids, paper bags or cardboard tubes. Use masking tape to build or attach on box to another. Remember to check for sharp corners and never use plastic bags or anything kitty could choke on or be strangled with.
For our teepee we may add a pillow inside for added comfort or use the floor as a surface to roll balls on. Odin likes plastic Easter eggs in a cardboard carton to retrieve and roll around. Cats loves to hide and explore containers of all shapes. It’s up to us and our imagination to provide novelty because an amused cat is a happy cat. The only thing we’re missing now is a campfire and roasted marshmallows.

I love cardboard too! I have a job shredding cardboard that I take purry seriously. All boxes must pass my inspection. The teepee is pawsome! I would love to get my teeth and claws into it, give it that homey, lived in look…

That is one great looking teepee. We would like one of those. What fun and all decorated too. Such a good deal. Take care.

That teepee is so pawsome!
Of course, our Nicki would eat that pretty quickly, which is why our human refuses to buy us one! Haha!
"The Boys" and Karen
“The Boys” and I are really thinking that teepee is the bestest box creation in the whole wide word. Especially the way you’ve got it decorated…to “make it your own!”

Wow, you made that teepee look really pretty! Allegra and Ruby played with their for a couple of days, but now it’s just become part of the scenery. Maybe if I paint it, they’ll think it’s something new again?

Ingrid, thanks. You could paint yours or just throw in a couple cat nip toys or attach some fabric. Anything to create interest. We have all kinds of beds/condos and the cats rotate their interests in them as they do their toys.

Look at the amazing transformation of your TeePee! I absolutely LOVE what you have done with it! Fantastic!
I have to tell you, I couldn’t figure out those darned little cardboard thingies either, so into the garbage they went!
I donated to some Indian School (can’t think of the name) and they sent me a little felt Indian blanket which I put inside.
Yours came out AMAZING! GREAT JOB!

MOL, there’s nothing, but nothing, like a cardboard box to amuse a kitty. And this one is cute!
