Kittens Go Clueless to Cute For National Kitten Day
Kittens Go Clueless to Cute For National Kitten Day by Layla Morgan Wilde
It’s National Kitten Day and kitten season is in full swing. Let’s celebrate these furry little wonders with an amazing video: How Kittens go from Clueless to Cute Fast.
As cute as kittens are, the shocking truth is most don’t survive into adulthood.
They fall prey to illness or predators in the wild.
If rescued, there is a good chance they will be euthanized.
The simple message is: Spaying and neutering saves lives.
Remember a female cat can produce three litters in one year, and the average number of kittens in a litter is four to six.The shelters are full at this time of year. The demand far outweighs the supply for neonatal foster care.
Being a kitten foster mom or dad is rewarding work. Contact your local shelter or rescue group to volunteer.
The Humane Society of the United States estimates the following:
- Of the 3 million cats and dogs euthanized in shelters each year, approximately 2.4 million (80%) are healthy and treatable and could have been adopted into new homes.
- Of the cats entering shelters, approximately 37% are adopted, 41% are euthanized, and less than 5% of cats who came in as strays are returned to their owners.
Shout out to The National Kitten Coalition and their mission to increase survival rates of rescued kittens.
We know that many animal shelters do not have the resources and/or knowledge to care for neonatal kittens in particular; therefore, we believe neonatal kittens or “bottle babies” are one of the most vulnerable populations in many animal shelters and are subsequently euthanized.
Our vision is that all neonatal, sick and other at-risk kittens are given a chance to grow and thrive through life-saving educational programs and positive partnerships among shelters, rescues, veterinarians and the public.
