Global Pet Expo Top Cat Products & Pantone Color of 2015
Global Pet Expo, the World’s Largest Annual Pet Products expo launched thousands of new products last week. What you may not know is every year Pantone announces a new color of the year. That color influences design and products from fashion, decor and even pet products. This year’s “it color” is Marsala, a muted wine with pink tones as seen in this image from Imperial Cat: makers of sturdy, recycled corrugated cardboard scratchers that are whimsical and made with soy inks and adhesives.
We love some of their new toys but more than ever appreciate their shelter programs. Every time I see their mini scratchers in the shelter cages where I volunteer, I’m so happy they give back.
Global Pet Expo is presented by The American Pet Products Association (APPA) and the Pet Industry Distributors Association (PIDA) and held March 4-6, 2015 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. I didn’t attend but many of my friends and colleagues who did acted as my eyes and ears. It’s difficult to imagine what close to 3000 exhibits with thousands of products looks like. This latest video shows a glimpse of what went on this year. You’ll need a catnap afterwards!

Best In Show
Kitty Connection® Mouse Pounce™ from Innovation Pet, Inc., The retro Whack-a-Mole look will appeal to Baby Boomers which make up of the largest demographic of the 58 billion dollar pet industry. Note: Gen Y and Millennials and are gaining ground, many as first-time pet parents.
Second Place
Vesper Cat Furniture from Rolf C. Hagen (USA) Corp
The new V- Line of cat furniture combines stylish design with cat-friendly materials for ideal kitty play, scratch and snooze time. The interest in cat-friendly products and furniture as part of home lifestyle continues to grow. This versatile line reflect the natural retro trend.
Third Place
Cats Of Thrones Toilet Seat from Cats from Cat Of Thrones
Touted as the world’s only toilet seat for cats, it’s a system to train a cat to use the toilet instead of the litter box. I’ll admit it looks easier and better made than existing products like the Litter Kwitter or Citi Kitty toilet training kits, but I’m not convinced. Take a look at the video. Is this something your cats would try?

Marsala has been my favorite color, next to Greens forever. It’s so wonderful Imperial donates those scratchers. Used to be here in Iowa animals, especially cats in shelters were very ignored, I’m so happy to see that changing! Though I hear people talk about adoption fees, they don’t realize what a deal it is! I realize Iowa doesn’t have the same loving attitudes as your eastern states.
Id love to be able to go to an Expo and drool(kidding) over the items shown. Don’t really like the toilet Throne, love the Kitty Pounce, in 1st place and the Vesper Cat Tower is on my forever wishlist!
Purrs and Love to you and Merlin.

I love the mouse toy, bet that would be a game for me too :o) My mom thought there is a kitty in a microwave oven as she saw the cat furniture… I wrote new glasses on her shopping list…she is a nut…

I love the Vesper cat furniture! Not so sure about the kitty throne… I always wonder what’s going to happen if the cat becomes arthritic in old age and won’t be able to make it up there anymore.
