Some shelters riffed on the spicy 50 Shades of Grey film (opening today) to appeal for adoptions. I’m not sure how effective the marketing was but I found a few vintage Valentine to raise eyebrows or bristle in a new way. Do you feel these cats are being depicted in a negative light?
Valentines are usually red or pink but I wanted to make something different this year for Cat Wisdom 101. A green vintage butterfly inspired me. It speaks of transformation and as Merlin gets ready to transition this year, it felt right. Cats are my every day creative muse. How about you? How are you celebrating your love of cats today?

I always find it interesting how so many words in the English language have changed meaning over the years. My grandparents used words like, hot, cool, gay and pussy with completely different meanings than my son might use them. And I don’t imagine there are many young Richard’s using the nickname Dick, unless they enjoy the sniggering that would accompany their introduction. Luckily, words like love, loyalty, companionship and family continue to hold the same power and meaning throughout the years. So, I think whatever gimmick a rescue uses to gain the publics attention is fine as long as words like guardian, provider, affection, care and love are stressed before the adoption is complete. Happy Valentine’s, with prayers that we all find love to warm us when the world seems cold and dark, no matter what form that love may walk in.
