Surprising Adoptions & Meet Snowshoe Cat Kenai
[Tweet “NYC area #AdorableAdoptables #cats rare Snowshoe at new Rochelle Humane Society @catwisdom101 @petxprt”]
Shelter adoptions rise and fall but there are always happy surprises. Chili, Armstrong, Pretty, Honeybee, Brandi, Alvin and Rightie may not mean anything to you but it means a fresh start for each of these recently adopted cats at New Rochelle Humane Society.
It’s no surprise when young, gorgeous cats get adopted but it’s a special thrill when the less adoptables find homes. Honeybee, Armstrong are from the hoarder group. Pretty, the more than pretty, large tabby who roamed the back room always made a beeline for me. I’d give her a pat but I needed to work with the hoarder cats in cages. Miss Sociable would insist: Look at me. I’m a big girl but I need a home too!
The cat adoption that made my heart soar to the moon was Rightie. He arrived as a young cat in 2008, six long years ago. He’s nine now and may he enjoy at another nine years of life in his happy, forever home.
Hoarding cats can be super #adorableAdoptables
Since a couple of the back room cats were adopted, I wanted to see how the remaining cats reacted, specifically Pa, the old hoarder boy and formerly bonded with Babe. I think he missed Honeybee but happy to hang with the guys like Ivan. He’s progressed nicely and sat in my lap, a first. For anyone concerned about adopting a hoarder cat, don’t be. They are all fully vetted and while some may take longer to adjust to their new home, most will like purr in gratitude.
You’d never think this gorgeous rare breed Snowshoe was rescued from a hoarder, but Kenai was. He’s made slow but steady progress over two months and finally felt ready to leave his cage voluntarily. He has a gentle, quiet spirit and ready to blossom fully in a foster or forever home. He’s our weekly feature. Please share his adoption graphic.
There are so many incredible Tuxies available I’m reposting this Tuxie adoption PSA. Check out some other others New Rochelle Humane Society but there are others not listed so ask! Some are from hoarding situation but most aren’t.

We love the Adorable Adoptables tagline. We saw it at “Sometimes Cats Herd You.” These cats are all unique and precious. So wish I could adopt more but then someone might think I was a hoarder. Sending purrs and prayers that they all find their forever homes. Hugs, Janet

They are all amazing but in a purrfect world Kenai would walk right into our lives. However I’m not ready to share Pop.

Layla, thanks for all that you do for these kitties at the New Rochelle Humane Society. I am so glad many get homes. I just love your graphics and beautiful pictures of these kitties. I wish every cat in every shelter could get a forever home.It will be more possible with all of your efforts and those of those who love cats and work all across the country helping these kitties and of course adopting them too. 🙂

We’re always glad to hear of happy endings, and we hope that all of the hoarding kitties have them, too. They’ve earned it.

What amazing kitties. Thank you, Layla, for your ongoing advocacy for these cats. It’s obviously helping them be adopted. 🙂
We have a soft spot for cats from hoarding situations. Angels Graphite and Lady Madonna came from such situations. And so did our sweet boy Moosey.
Hugs!

I’m sure your great pictures, graphics, and inventive copy contributed to the successful outcomes- the hands-on socializing too. I know there are so many cats waiting for homes, but it’s time to celebrate!

It’s so great about reading all adoption news! How wonderful Rightie found his forever home after long years he waited. I wish everyone who’s found home a very long happy new life. And I hope many more kitties at shelter will find homes, too. Such gorgeous kitties, yes, resistance is futile 🙂

It feels so good to read about a happy end and a furever home. I hope for a furever home for all other kitties there too.

Bless them all……and it’s always heartwarming to hear of a senior cat who’s found a forever home – and ANY cat who has a chance to experience a REAL home vs. a hoarding situation really makes our hearts soar! Glad to hear this is happening there.
Hugs, Pam

These are all such amazing kitties! I too have a special place in my heart for kitties who came from hoarding situations – some thought they were going to a wonderful new home and wound up in the feline version of hell. I’m so glad these cats are all getting a better chance at life.
