DIY Cat Spaceship
Cats generally don’t like covered litter boxes. If you happen to have one and would like to re-purpose it, it makes a fun spaceship. I’d placed one on a yoga mat with plans to throw it into the re-cycle garbage bin but Odin had other ideas. Ground control to major Tom? Who am I to interfere with Captain Odin of the spaceship Enterprise or a 2011 Space Odyssey?

I am lucky that my two boys love it. Just bought a bigger one recently, because they are huge boys. Ched faces front and Mao faces inward. Funny. Also bought a very handy tool, a CatMouse ionizer, which keeps the room smelling fresh and sweet.
Really handy info to know!

Yes indeed, that looks like a fun time!

That’s so cute! I use both covered and uncovered litter boxes, and from what I have observed, the girls seem to prefer the covered ones whereas the boys choose whatever is available.
Now I know what to give my kitties for their next toy. 🙂

Sam’s litter box isn’t a covered one and he has good disposal service courtesy of yours truly at his beck and call. He’ll find me wherever I am in the house to let me know he’s made a deposit. He’s insistent that I drop everything and “flush” for him (which of course I do!). I think Odin is one clever boy to turn that old covered box into a spaceship….looks like a perfect playhouse to me (and Sam too…now HE wants one!).

Jonquil loves his covered lavatory. When he’s done, you can hear the sand hit the sides. Also, I suppose his equivalent to dad taking a magazine with him to the jonq and then staying in there far too long after his business is done is for him to clean his paws on the inside of the hood. This goes on so long you’d swear it was a battle for survival in there!

Wow. I wonder if I could attach a motor so Ichiro would fly away?

Best idea for a covered litter box I’ve seen. Good old Odin 🙂 Great pics, Layla !
Austin’s covered litter box is outside and it’s called a hebe bush 🙂

That’s a great way to reuse the box! We have 2 giant hooded ones, among other litter boxes, but we don’t use the hoods. The mom just really likes how deep the boxes are, because one of us (Nicki) makes quite a mess!

Now that’s an appropriate use for a covered litter box – way to go Odin!
I’ll restrain myself from getting on my soap box of why covered litter boxes are a bad idea for cats 🙂

Ingrid, we’re on the same page on the subject and yet there are some who don’t mind like
@Carolyn, twice daily. That’s good service at your house.
@Fuzzy Tales, exactly our reason, the boxes are really deep.
@The Islands Cats, safe purrs to you guys.
@Marg, safe purrs to all of you.

We use a covered litter box all the time and love it. Mom got it so she wouldn’t hafta look at …. yoo know what, everytime she walked passed (even though it is emptied and cleaned twice daily). MOL! But we love the space ship!
