The holiday season has began and that means shopping for gifts. We love giving and receiving books and but when a publicist sent us the latest novel from best-selling writer Greg Kincaid, we knew it would be about dogs. We wondered how our cat lover audience would respond. Merlin, always curious had a sniff. In the spirit of generosity, had this to say.
Greg Kincaid, a practicing attorney and advocate for humane treatment of animals, lives on his family’s farm in Kansas. He’s best known for his novel A Dog Named Christmas which was made into a Hallmark movie. A Christmas Home unfolds in the same feel good vein addressing timely issues of concern to all animal lovers. It’s a triumph of overcoming challenges by thinking out of the box with passion and determination.
Economic woes are forcing a rural animal shelter in Kansas to close after Christmas. Todd, the hero from A Dog Named Christmas is a young man who works at the shelter. Despite developmental challenges (Aspergers?) Todd, who still lives at home on his family’s farm, is determined to find new homes for all the shelter pets and find a new job involving animals. He’s gifted at training dogs but flounders socially. He finds an ally in shelter volunteer and nurse’s aid, Laura. Together they rally the community to save the pets they love while their own sweet romance blossoms.
If you’d like to win a copy, we have two copies available for Cat Wisdom 101 subscribers. Simply “like” and leave a comment any time before midnight Nov.17, 2012. Good luck! Visit our other blog The Boomer Muse for a bonus pic of Merlin with the book.

Any pet lover would welcome A Christmas Home as a gift. But the best gift might be more charitable one. What excited me the most was learning about Kincaid’s involvement starting the Foster A Lonely Pet For The Holidays program at PetFinders.com. I’ll be involved with the program myself. The program is on now to the end of December. I urge you to see if there is a shelter in your neighborhood that could use some help. If you are in the New York area, there are several shelters hit hard by hurricane Sandy who desperately could use help fostering displaced pets including Staten Island Hope Animal Rescue

Oh we love dogs and would love to have this book. It sounds like such a good one. I have often thought about fostering a pet for Christmas but I know what would happen. It would stay here and I just can’t afford or have room for any other animals. All the cats here would sure fire the Person.
Take care.
