Cherished To The End

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

Cherished: 21 Writers on Animals They Have Loved and Lost is a collection of 21 essays edited by Barbara Abercrombie on pet loss from writers like Ann Lamott and Jane Smiley who recall the demise of beloved pets. This is not exclusively a cat book but every pet owner can commiserate. The pets range from dogs and cats to horses and pigs. Beautifully written, it will move you to tears (you’ll want to have hankie nearby). From “Mr. T’s Heart” by Jane Smiley: “We stayed with him long enough to recognize that he was not there, that his body was like a car he had driven and now had gotten out of…We have to experience the absence of life in order to accept it.”

There is a comfort knowing that grieving a pet is not only acceptable but a universal part of loving one. All royalties are donated to The Best Friends Animal Society which runs the largest sanctuary for abused and abandoned animals.

Rating: 3 paws. Published 2011. 224 pages.

I hate be a downer on a holiday weekend so here’s so here’s Odin, who always has an opinion.

Given the post I put up on July 2 I would say this book is rather timely!! It sounds intriguing, I need to check this out.
I wanted you to know I just sent you an email. I utilize comment moderation on my blog. I was forced to do so months ago when I was getting undesirable and abusive comments that were directed towards cats.
Whenever someone leaves a comment, it doesn’t go “live” until I read/approve the comment. I had approved BOTH of yours but you probably didn’t go back and see that.
I apologize for the lag time in your posting and my approving the comment but I am not always at the computer to read/approve every comment instantly. I do apologize. I get to them as quickly as I can.
I am friends with a few of the individuals on your blogroll who I think can vouch for the fact that I am not an evil person.
I just subscribed to your blog (which I think is DELIGHTFUL and brilliantly done) and I added it to my blogroll. I also liked your Facebook page and am following you on Twitter.
I do apologize for the delay in my posting your comments, I certainly wouldn’t not post them when what you wrote was much appreciated.
