Cats VS Dogs Art Exhibit & Fab Friday Finds
Cats and art or cats in art is a marriage made in kitty heaven. Add dogs into the mix and it’s double the fun. You can experience a beautifully curated exhibit of 150 pet paintings this summer at University of Texas at Austin’s Blanton Museum of Art
The must-see exhibit “In the Company of Cats and Dogs” at the Blanton Museum of Art is on from June 22 to September 21, 2014.
This exhibit is a cultural and historical overview dating from ancient Egypt throughout the centuries to contemporary artists by bold-face names like Picasso, Edward Hopper to John Sargent. I’m a huge fan of Asian art depicting cats this 1931 woodblock print Cat Prowling Around a Staked Tomato Plant by Takahashi Hiroaki from the exhibit.

How intriguing that Rijksmuseum has done this! Some publishers have taken that daring step as well and de-DRMed several authors. We’ll definitely check out Rijksmuseum and might actually be able to make the Austin exhibit, too!

Ahhhhhhhhhh one of the other great loves of my life….art! That is yet another thing I would do if I had the money ,travel to the museums of the world and just see the wonderful beauty that is housed there, not counting all of the fabulous street art to be found. It is sooooooooooooo beyond cool what the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is doing. The possibilities are endless! I know that the modern computer and digital photography allow a new kind of art but there is nothing that can ever replace the hand drawn, painted, created works of art. They have a soul in them that is unique. Happy Day! Happy Cat/ Animal art!

Those are great! We really like the idea of having art opened up for alteration and creativity like that, and we are curious to see what you do with it.

That would be a lovely exhibit to visit. How is Merlin?

Merlin and I are spending quality time together and he’s enjoying the warmer weather. He lives for summer! Thanks for asking.

Both are lovely.

We’d love to see that exhibit!

Oh what a fun project, to alter the art!!! I might have to look into that after my recent painting success. 😛 Mrs. Peabody’s portrait is still going on the wall. Crepes’ portrait may go in the bathroom. 😉 – Alana.

I love Oriental paintings of cats (and any other subject, for that matter)! The cat and tomato plant painting is gorgeous!

We think all us cats are works of art!

I agree :o) and I think it’s better to work with a cat model than with a dog. cats are the best muses :o)

I mean, Austin, Texas.

What a cool project the Rijksmuseum has created! My human would be tempted to play around with some of the art, but she’s really not as creative artistically as she appears to be.

Beautiful!
