Vintage Cat Book Art & Free Cat Book

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

As a kid in Canada I used to play a skipping rope game based on the old British nursery rhyme. “Who shall it be who will marry me?Tinker, tailor, soldier, sailor. Rich man, poor man, beggarman, thief, doctor, lawyer, merchant, chief.” We’d chant the words with little thought which career we might consider. The antique book (pictured above illustrated by Louis Wain) has a slightly different but no more less politically incorrect version. The girls I played with wanted to get married and have babies. I preferred books and cats. Little did I know being involved with the written word and cats could be a career option and yet, here I am today. There’s no doubt, my passion for books, art and animals began early. My passion for antiques, vintage art and collectibles came later in my first career as a designer but influences my work today.

Girls these days have career options beyond anything I could have imagined. They can become veterinarians, animal shelter workers, animal behaviorists and researchers, TNR and rescue advocates, cat bloggers and writers. It’s a joy to see kids learn about cats at an early age. Vintage cat books were cute and entertaining but not educational like the vast selection available today. Two nonfiction cat books for kids I recommend are: Everything Cat: What Kids Really Want to Know About Cats and Cats Vs Dogs.
