Mondays With Merlin: Healthy Boundaries

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

Boundary quote-cats

Happy Monday dear friends. It’s Merlin here and we did it! We’re beginning a new week but sometimes we have leftovers and oopsies. With all the excitement around our Henri le Chat Noir giveaway (our biggest response ever!) Layla completely forgot to announce the winner of our giveaway for the gorgeous coffee table book The Elegant Cat. Our lucky winner is Annette who beat the odds with her multiple entries and social media shares.

Congratulation Annette! Look for an email from Layla requesting your shipping address. The Elegant Cat is one of our Golden Purr Award winners and would make a lovely gift. Speaking of gifts… our annual Holiday Gift Guide will be posted on Wednesday. We’ll be taking Tuesday off so Layla can work 20/7 instead of 24/7. Thank Cod I’m a cat.

Now with business out of the way, I’m purring to tell you what I found in the garden. There were a few warmish days and I wasted no time going for a power walk. Gris Gris shadows me like a bad noir movie detective and Layla has eased her guard dog vigilance. The truth is I’m walking better than ever and sure I bump into low lying shrubbery but so what, I keep moving. There I was walking into the auxiliary part of my territory aka the next door neighbor when I hit the wall, literally.

My memory isn’t what it used to be but MO– — — USES when did they put up a fence? I’m walking and sniffing, sniffing and walking when I found a spot drenched in scent. An odor extravaganza you might say. Be still my beating heart. I’m old but not dead. Numerous cats had left their calling card and must say, some of the messages were enticing. But some were from my very own fur brothers. Oh so naughty! It turns out Odin, the scamp, was sneaking under a hole in the fence to the neighbors who have a big swimming pool and a small dog. Layla and the other humans thought it best to block the hole for everyone’s safety. Odin did not agree, not that he had any say in it.

Healthy boundaries keep us safe and not only with fences but doing too much stuff that’s bad for you. Cats rarely have this problem but humans need to be reminded to keep excesses in check, like anything addictive. You humans have a very long list of possibilities. The holiday season is about begin. Let’s keep it full of peace, love and purrs but not too many, if you know what I mean.

Pee ess,

Thanks a bunch of catnip for all your kind purrs and good wishes. Domino has bounced back as good as new.

Love Merlin
