March Cat News, Holidays & More

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

March Cat News, Holidays & More by Layla Morgan Wilde

So much to share, where to begin? Welcome to March! The month is named after Mars, the Roman god of war. In ancient Rome, the month marked to time to resume battle after a hiatus during the winter. It’s ironic or fitting with war raging on in Ukraine.

As soon as the news broke, I plunged into researching the plight of cats. It’s easy to do glib or sensational coverage but I quickly uncovered more fascinating facts not being shared online. One thing led to another and I can’t do it justice in today’s fluffier post. Look for Everything About Ukrainian Cats. For now, I’ll say don’t believe everything you read online especially if donations are solicited. Use trusted news outlets like the BBC.

Needless to say, war is a heartbreaking situation.

No one knows the future for sure but it doesn’t stop astrologers and psychics from trying. Before I start writing on my monthly calendar, I like to prepare a crystal grid on the new moon and pull some tarot cards for the theme of the month for me.

This month, I felt I wanted to do a collective read. I wanted to have protective stones with a supportive square at the center. Two fiery wand cards flank the center card, the Wheel of Fortune. What is happening is fated, karmic in the ups and downs in the cycle of life. When things are unfortunate as they are now for so many, know a positive upswing is in the cards. The Queen of Wands lends the energy of courage, honesty and passion for doing the right thing. The 4 of wands is a card of celebration, happy events of coming home and reunions.

As grim as it is now, trust that there will be a cause to celebrate. Things could get worse before it gets better but we, the collective we, will persevere. I don’t dwell too much on timing but in numerology, the card lands firmly in stability between April 11- April 20. FYI, I have read tarot professionally since the early ’90s. I took a break recently, but will be booking again this month. Email me, if interested.

Regardless of where you live in the world, everyone is impacted by global events. Add it to the heels of a long winter, Covid concerns and who isn’t feeling crazy stressed? Remember cats mirror our moods and notorious for hiding or internalizing stress.

May I suggest reading our Vet 101: The Cure For Stress for some Crazy Cats We all know cats work wonders for our stress but what about theirs. If your cat hasn’t had a wellness vet visit in the past year, please consider it.

Where I live north of NYC March blew in like a lion and I hope to leaves like a lamb. The weather has been like a roller coaster all winter. Can you relate?

I had to share a silly Instagram Reel of my favorite weirdos. Humor is a lifesaver these days.

Odin, the eternal goofball.

The biggest cat news about my cats is about Nou Nou who might have a new name. She’s by far the weirdest cat I’ve ever known. She rarely meows except on the way to the vet. During the holiday we watched a Netflix series Elves. A gremlin-like elf named Kee-ko mesmerized Nou Nou and we started calling her Kee-ko for fun. She seemed to like it. Why not. Lots of cats have nicknames. One day she was sitting on my lap and my husband calls out, Kee-ko, Kee-ko and she made the strangest sounds. Not a meow. We call them Kee-ko sounds now. You can hear them for yourself. What can I say, we’re a weird family.

Every year there are new pet holidays. I created a new poster with useful dates.

march cat holidays

March 2 is Dr. Seuss Day or Cat in the Hat Day. I’ve blogged about it many times and I love the message of teaching children the love of reading. Odin loves the message of inclusivity and self-acceptance. I agree about embracing our inner weirdo and the ability to laugh at ourselves.

March 2 is Mardi Gras or for pets Meowdi Gras or Pawtie Gras. It’s one more reason to celebrate and dust off the gloom. I have my Mardi Gras beads ready and hope Odin will pose for pics later today. For now this oldie will do.

Keeping pets safe means when we travel or can’t be at home for extended time. The safest way is to hire a professional pet sitter(tips)

March 17 is extra special with St. Patrick’s Day or as some cat lovers call St. Catrick’s Day. I don’t think St. Gertrude would mind since she is the Patron Saint of Cats.

We have a ridiculous amount of posts, photos of my cats, kitties in costumes and vintage art. You can expect and fresh green batch near the 17th. I think we could all use some extra luck, yes?

That is a cute story about Nou Nou. The art that says crazy looks like Louis Wane. I highly recommend the movie about him on Amazon Prime. I am praying for all the pets left behind in the Ukraine. XO

WOW – lots of great stuff here. I especially like your choice of 3 paintings by the beloved artist of cats, Louis Wain. Have you see the film about him on Amazon Prime, ‘The Electrical Life of Louis Wain’?
    Enjoyed the ‘weird’ videos too.
My little fluffy black lion Astor is doing great and keeps my flat free of mice too – mighty hunter that he is!
    Warmest Wishes!

Wow Layla! You crammed a lot of stuff into this post.
We are praying and purring for our fellow humans and animals in the Ukraine. War is such an ugly, cruel, stupid unnecessary thing. The innocents are the ones that pay the price for the war monger’s sins. Egotistical arrogance drives the machine of war. The price is too dear for anyone to have to pay.
We pray for this to end quickly.
Thanks for sharing everything and for doing the reading, hopefully it rings true sooner than later.
