Home For The Holidays Cat Adoption Special

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

We have a special shelter volunteer edition this week. During the holiday season most of us revel in the warmth of our homes with family and friends and that includes pets, if we’re lucky. Many will think of adopting a cute kitten but a more purrfect gift would be an older cat or one that’s been at a shelter way too long. The most precious thing we can give is love. I know many cats who love nothing better than to be home for the holidays.

The New Rochelle Humane Society where I volunteer is offering REDUCED ADOPTION FEES for the entire month of December for any pet staying at the shelter for over 4 months or any pet that is aged 7 years and older.

I’m rooting for Coretta the tuxie queen of the Sunshine Room who was adopted recently but quickly returned. She’s been known to take a swipe at me and others and needs patience to adjust to a new home. All shelter cats are stressed and easily over-stimulated (some more than others) which can easily result in unwanted nips. A gradual introduction period even if there are no other pets in the home is key.

Adoption hours:  Open seven days a week: 10am to 4pm; except Thursdays, 2pm to 8pm. Have a question? Call
914.632.2925 or stop by 70 Portman Rd. in New Rochelle, NY. for a tour and speak to one of the adoption counselors.

AND each day in December they will be featuring a different “Lonely Heart” at the New Rochelle Humane Society Facebook page and Website New RochelleHumaneSociety.

As always, sharing is not only caring but that one click could save a life.

Yes we are purring along with everyone for all homeless animals around the world to find a loving, safe home for Catmas.

Poor sweet Coretta, she sounds like my Tortie Queen Clove, who spent a long time being overlooked because of her age and being a swiper. Having been abused, abandoned and then in a strange place who wouldn’t be scared and untrusting?
Six months later and she rules the house, her confidence blossoming more everyday and the swipes occur once or twice a month if that. Patience, unconditional love, and space were all she needed- along with the usual tortie smitten servant to boss around! She is my joy returned and the best gift my angel dilute tortie Queen could have ever sent me.

Geez ,if I sent back every adoptee that had an issue I would never have a cat! I just don’t understand how anyone could return one but it is better than just throwing them away. We know that there ia a patient someone out there for dear Coretta.
We purr and pray for homes, food, shelter, medical care and love for all beings not just at the holidays but all year thru.

Coretta, that’s so sad that they brought you back… why? You are beautiful and you’re right you can make every house to a home… and I hope so much that you will find your home soon

Coretta is beautiful, and we are glad there are folks at your shelter who understand how difficult the adjustment to being in that situation can be for kitties. We are purring and praying for a home for the holidays for Coretta and the other cats waiting at New Rochelle.

Poor Coretta….how confusing it must be to be returned!! My fondest wish would be that lots of kitties who NEED a home, FIND a home for the holidays……….

    Hugs, Sammy and Mom Pam

Yes, a gradual introduction. Could take months. Tuxes make up their own minds as to who they like. Mao still regards me mainly as the food lady, although he loves to sleep on my knees and ankles. (I don’t mind.) He has always considered dotter his first love. Hubs is his second. Son is 3rd. I am the Food Lady and 4th.
