Cats, Vintage New Year’s Cards and Diversity

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

Cats, Vintage New Year’s Cards and Diversity. This is our 7th year of curating and creating unique, vintage of other cat-themed New or Mew Year’s cards.

It’s been a wild year and not always the sweetly purring kind. To end the year on a high note, I created a cute collection but with more diversity. I hope you enjoy this quirky and unusual collection of New Year’s cards you won’t find anywhere else. The last one is my favorite and our Cat Wisdom 101 New Year’s wish for you. Check back on Monday for a special treat. We’re also joining other creative pet bloggers at a BLOG HOP

There was an old card I repaired last year but didn’t post. I wasn’t sure if it was politically correct but this year I’m including it as a celebration of diversity. What makes this adorable twosome timely and more rare is that it was created over 100 years ago by the prolific illustrator Ellen Clapsaddle who was born in 1858. It’s rare to see African American themed cards with cats.

Frankly, I’m painfully aware at the lack of diversity concerning cat book authors, celebrity cat owners, advocates or feline-centric product/services. Please share your thoughts and suggestions how we can add more diversity into our content. Leave a comment email [email protected].

These days we tend to lump holiday season/Christmas with New Year’s but in gentler times were more New Year’s greetings exclusively. The sentiments often sound schmaltzy and old-fashioned but I found a few that are not only heartfelt but deep.

This year’s collection range from Victorian, Edwardian to mid-century modern with our obligatory nod to lucky black cats.

May all New Year’s joys be yours and hopefully include cats. When I was single I loathed New Year’s eve and much preferred staying home with my cats (and still do).

Of course we now know not to give our cats Champagne or other alcohol. Ironically, many vintage cards have kids swigging booze. And as the Dutch say Gelukkig Nieuwajaar!

The French prefer to wish a good year instead of a happy year but they’re the same, no? I hope we all have something to sing about in 2019.
