Cat Wisdom 101 3rd Blogiversery & BEA Cat Book Previews

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

Cat Wisdom 101-blogiversary

Time flies when you love cats. Our third blogiveversary snuck up on us but three years and 1015 posts later here we are. In some ways it’s business as usual with no cake, balloons or fanfare. Okay, maybe a little virtual sparkle. We’d like to focus on the “give” in blogiveversary and give thanks to you dear reader. Without you we’d be whistling in the dark, twiddling our nonopposable thumbs for nothing. So, thanks for being here and I hope we can share an even better blog with you in the future. Yes, there are some changes and revamping coming in June.

Our Odin was born in early June but we don’t know the exact day. The official unofficial birthday is today but since Mancat Monday is tomorrow, we’ll trot out the birthday banners, cake and assorted feline delicacies then. We hope you stop by and please no gifts. He’s plenty spoiled already. If you are in a gift-giving or charitable mood, donations are welcome for the rescued kitties we wrote about yesterday.

I’d planned a book review/giveaway but since I was at the BEA Book expo in NYC yesterday, I thought I’d share a sneak peek of some cat books to be released in the next few months. It was my second year attending and for anyone who writes or loves books it’s a feeding frenzy. The hangar-like space of the Javits Center in New York buzzed with everyone from the publishing industry to librarians and bloggers like myself. I joined fellow cat blogger friend Tamar from I Have Cat who was lucky to catch the appearance by Grumpy Cat. No one got to hold Ms. Grumpy except Nicky Hilton who was there promoting her new fashion book.

By the time I arrived at the Chronicle Books booth Grumpy Cat had left leaving behind her bed. The biggest shock of the day was bumping into my local librarian and finding out she’d never heard of Grumpy Cat. Sometimes I forget that not everyone is crazy about cats.

Tamar snapped my photo of in front of Grumpy Cat’s new book The Grumpy Guide To Life which is more frothy than pithy but adorable. The image laden book echoes some of my tongue-in-cheek wisdom I wrote last year Life Lessons from Grumpy Cat and What Grumpy Cat Taught Me They’ve inspired more Grumpy Cat “lessons” online and we’ll no doubt be seeing more “lesson” memes.

I was thrilled to meet the team from Quirk Books who have been a delight to deal with. I’ll be reviewing one of their titles soon. They have partnered with Hello Kitty for two quirky books on crochet and baking. Funny how weird does work. Tamar seen snapping a pic agreed.

Many of the children’s books like these board books depict cats or dogs. I thought Daddy Wrong Legs was brilliant.

Also from Chronicle books is the latest in pet poetry from Francesco Marciuliano, the bestselling author of I Could Pee On This and I Could Chew on This. His adorable kitten poetry with the clever title I Knead My Mommy is bound to sell well. I the poem titled Gratitude sums up the sly, slightly subversive humor.

The FolkManis booth had the most amazing array of animal puppets including several cats. My favorite was a life-sized Ragdoll (pictured below).
