My Name is Bob, the illustrated prequel of the bestselling memoir A Street Cat Named Bob is for kids of all ages. Like millions of other fans of the ginger tabby named Bob and his street musician cat dad, James Bowen, I couldn’t wait to dive into the large, richly illustrated children’s book. It’s written by James Bowen with Garry Jenkins and illustrator Gerald Kelley beautifully captures the life Bob may have had before Bowen rescued him in 2007.

We’ll never know the truth but as the purrfectly plausible story unfolds his former elderly owner takes ill, Bob finds himself on the streets of London, alone, hungry and desperate. This story, like the real life story has a happy ending. The endpapers have photos of the real Bob with James and fun factoids about the inseparable duo.

After getting lost in the heart-melting story I lingered over the last page and promptly read it again. It promises to be a children;s classic begging to be read over and over again.

Merlin was impressed with the message of hope and love. For the past two years he’s followed the growing fame of his fellow feline and reviewed A Street Cat Named Bob and the sequel The World According to Bob

This adorable video shows Bowen reading the book to Bob.
