The Art of Fabulous Feline Black Panthers

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

Our shelter volunteer adventures returns this week featuring one of a number of fabulous black cats or feline black panthers from NewRochelleHumaneSociety and the latest Radish Report.

Black shelter cats

It still boggles my mind that black cats are the least adopted color in shelters. That fact won’t change without a shift in mindset or perspective. Listen to our feline teachers; they’re here to share their wisdom if we let them.

Radish shelter cat

I haven’t been blogging, commenting and returning emails regularly since Radish arrived home from the shelter but have posted his daily progress on Instagram. Radish is in recovery from liver failure. See the pics at our Instagram page. The Hashtags are #savingradish or #Radish. Thank-you for all your comments, emails and donations. Your acts of kindness have made a huge difference as I struggle with health issues while caring for Radish 24/7. When his URI improved along with his appetite a few days ago hope soared. When he began devouring raw cat food on his own, I swear I could hear the angels sing. His first poop was a joy to behold. As the liver detoxes, the poop is grayish but his were solid and substantial. All good. He discovered the joys of drinking from a fountain. Worries eased. The heaviness lifted. He also started on meds for the hyperthyroidism. The symptoms of one disease contribute to the other and need to be treated in tandem.

Our vet G. delighted about his progress called him a champ and then he began getting more sluggish today and oozed soft gray poop. Not a lot but enough for me to be racked with anxiety again. It’s late as I write this and I’d rather go Reiki him than continue. For the latest news, check on Facebook or Instagram. Thanks again.

Black cats have always been special. When I first started TNR there was one wiley Tom who couldnt be caught and year after year there were black kittens the females would have (and be caught, socialized and Momma released usually) The colony at that time was maybe 20 strong. The wiley old black Tom cat was finally trapped, but not before I had perhaps 9 cats that were all black.
The old wiley Tom named Punchy, is now 16, the old man and going strong, I lost one of his sons who was perhaps 14 last year and one of my favorites is a deaf black cat who is a wonderful wild boy who allows a skritch now and then.
Sending Purrs for Radish…. and thinking of him stalking your page daily for good news. Keep on rallying Radish! Take some time for yourself when you are able…

I’ve always thought black cats were awesome. But they do look like shadows in cages.. they need to get them out and let them run around, then people will see how beautiful they are!
Purring and praying for Radish. So glad he is improving and hoping this is just a minor thing and not a set back!

I’m glad with you… that he started to eat and that he can poop… yes, even “small” things can be a big step in a good direction :o)
I feel sorry for the black cats and all black animals who have to wait so long for a new home… people are crazy they call a black horse Black BEAUTY and they think about bad luck when they see a black cat… :o(
