Caturday News & Mews

This week we enjoyed turkey. Some more than others like Odin.

Merlin and Domino have resumed a close relationship on our cat daddy’s lap after Merlin repeatedly shooed Domino away.

When a cat who normally loves the companionship of another cat suddenly doesn’t, it can signal illness or pain. Merlin is feeling better after a week of antibiotics but I’m hyper-alert to his behavioral changes given his age and medical condition. Just in case, our vet Dr. G. is coming over on Tuesday to check out both Merlin and Gris Gris.

Odin searched high and low for the elusive Miss Blackie but

she made herself scarce as hens teeth. The KatKabin remained vacant.

Then, Odin did something naughty. He’s been playing more aggressively. It’s fine when he wrestles with an equally matched Domino, but he chased Gris Gris clear across the lawn and tackled him like linebacker. Odin weighs twice as much as Gris Gris who ended up limping for a couple days. We kept a close eye on both of them until Gris Gris recovered.

There’s a fine line between play aggression and re-directed aggression. Gris Gris acted defensively at meal time and we fed them separately. Poor Gris Gris, the low-maintenance cat is a senior boy of 14 and formerly bullied at the shelter. The last thing he needs is another bully. When he’s feeling less than confident, he scent marks more frequently (see below). Fortunately, he’s good buds with Domino and #1 ally of Merlin seen here enjoying the last?warm day of the year on the sunning porch.

We’ve playing musical beds this weeks with everyone juggling different locations, singly and in pairs. Merlin has refused to sleep with me for several nights expressing unhappiness about my late work nights. Sigh, what’s gal to do? The eternal guilt about women working and not spending enough time with their kids includes the four -legged ones.

Have you noticed your cats behaving differently at your house this week?

Thanks for every one of your work on this website. Ellie really likes setting aside time for investigation and it’s simple to grasp why. My spouse and i know all about the compelling method you make functional tactics through the web blog and even improve participation from some other people on that topic plus our simple princess has been being taught a whole lot. Have fun with the rest of the year. You have been conducting a powerful job.

Hi, I think your blog might be having browser compatibility issues. When I look at your website in Ie, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, wonderful blog!

Behavioral changes always make me nervous. I’ve taken my boys to vet for that in the past…most of the time it was false alarm. I hope Merlin is just fine.
And I hope Gris Gris will recover soon. Hoping everyone enjoys warm sunshine and wonderful weekend!

I didn’t get the thorough fall cleaning done earlier in the month so these holi-days have been given over to preparations for winter. Windows washed and covered with plastic. Floor swept and washed. Dusting, even behind things, done. Holy catnip, Batman! Look at the toys! So THAT’S where they all went. The girls stay out of the way, watching from a perch on the back of the recliner or the top of the side table. “The last time she did this, we had company, people we didn’t know,” is what I think they are thinking. Sometimes, the thorough cleaning brings out the hiss/spit/growl of stress, but this time, it hasn’t. Sweep, sweep, move the ottoman, scratch ears, treats, back to sweeping. They have been very content to just watch. I watched “The Grinch” and told them both, “Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Perhaps Christmas means a little bit more.” Tomorrow, I decorate. It’s been wonderfully peaceful these three days.

Wow, good for you Deb! Everything is ready and that’s good approach to include the cats so they know cleaning and moving furniture isn’t moving house.

Oh.. sweet Gris Gris. We can relate here… despite how well it is going with Kizmet, cats being cats, there has been some displaced aggression here as well. Rolz has been attacking his sister Mia and she is none too happy about it. It seems because Kizmet is encouraging so much play and we ask Rolz to be gentle, that he feels the need to be rougher with his sister who doesn’t want to play at all…

I don’t know what’s what, but Dex has been the “love sponge” lately, his favorite place has been sprawling his bulk across me, snuggling in the crook of my arm like a baby instead of a 14 lb. Giant Puma Kitten! And Harry, well, he’s simply utterly distracted by all the cooking going on. He’s whiffing the kitchen air like it was an open window on the first warm day in spring.
Sending purrs and good health to all the boys…

It’s business as usual at our house. Poor Gris Gris,Odin still has the zest of youth. We are glad that our dear friend Merlin is feeling better and hope Gris Gris does too. Happy day to all..luvs Skeeter and Izzy >^..^<

Aww, I love the photos and captions the best.

Hope Gris Gris is okay. Merlin’s looking pretty chipper for his age.

Odin’s heartbroken and lovesick again, especially for a boy who’s missing his jewels.

Domino looks so cozy. Nothing like lap cats and bed cats to make a body feel better.

Time for me to cozy back with Ched. I’ve even got Mao into belly rubs now. At least, he doesn’t paw me when I’m typing.
