Funny Feline Flashback- Vintage Cat Products

We have a fab update about our Fizzion Pet Stain and Odor Remover Giveaway. Our coupon code was glitchy so the awesome folks from Fizzion are making this generous offer.

As a collector of vintage ephemera, I’m delighted and sometimes horrified at what I find. Pet products have come along way since this dubious sounding product to clean cats. I suspect it was borax or baking soda based.

I wonder how safe this ’50s collars really was. The bell is quite large and heavy and Odin was not amused by it.

Vintage wind-up cat toys for kids might be fun for cats today.

This isn’t vintage but…this one one cat product I could live without.

  8. All that info is really funny. Who knew that we had all that back when. And we are not surprised either that Katnip has those butt magnets. Too funny. It would be a funny gift. Take care.

  14. Funny!

I notice that it took a long time for toy mice to actually work. When I was a kid in the 50s, they never interested cats. Even with Emma in the 80s, these mechanical things sort of interested her for three seconds, until it stopped.

Then, in the 00s – Who was the genius who put catnip in a blob of fur with mouse eyes and tail? It works.

We regularly dip our older, store-bought mice in catnip to enhance their appeal.

  17. the graphics on the bell collar and wind-up toy box are to die for. The Dry-Clean powder, I’m sure, was some horrid combination of chemicals. poor kitty, licking all THAT out of your fur. But the graphic – pretty groovy. I love the overall faded patina and the yellow-green of the cat’s eyes. Would be nice as a poster if you could blow it up. Hey! a little side project for you, Layla ;-D

But yeah, cat butts – I can do without too.

  18. The cat before me actually had a collar similar to the one in your blog post! It was stretchy and lightweight and easily came off if it got snagged on something. Which means she would lose them on a regular basis. But my human got wise to her and always had several onhand (they were cheap). So when Harlot showed up without her collar, she would immediately find a new one slipped over her neck. I can only imagine she was not happy about that!

Love the pictures. The can of cleaner looks dangerous! Whoever thought cats were that dirty! The collar looks like the 50′s. I’d love to have the metal cat &mouse. Have some replica old metal toys. I’m very sorry to admit I got the cat butt stickers for Christmas from my niece and nephew. They thought they were hilarious for Aunt Connie, the nutty cat lady. So with my sometimes weird sense of humor, I out ruled my son who wanted to throw them away and they are in a row on the side of our fridge.lol. Great offer from Frizzion!

  21. I want the vintage Cat Butts magnet set and cat and mouse toy. I love vintage cat products. Please keep posting these pictures for us Layla.
