What a beautiful book! Those of us that truly make our cats part of our family grieve for their loss very deeply. My two are not treated as substitutes for human children but they hold their own extraordinary place in my heart and home. Each animal that has shared a time in my life has been special to me whether it was a guppy or mouse or a dog or a horse or a cat. I have grieved for them all and thankfully have always had friends and family around that understood and accepted that deep level of grief and mourning. It breaks my heart a little whenever anyone loses an animal companion or even when I see a feral that has died but I take comfort in the thought that there IS a special place for them all.
