Cat Saturday,  Contests & Giveaways

Caturday News & Mews + Contest

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

We have a special Olympic-sized Caturday New & Mews edition.

Someone’s birthday is coming up and Odin came bearing gifts. This vole rescued and will hopefully to see its next birthday. Odin is more interested hunting than killing and announces his success with a trill, “Look mom, just for you!” I don’t normally have a camera handy for these “presents” but my lens was focused on a deer when Odin waltzed by.

It was a week of surprises, fun and respite from the demands of palliative kitty care. After Merlin peed on the bed for the second time in a week, I resorted to puppy pads. Miraculously, he hasn’t had an incident since. I’m calling it “carrying an umbrella in case it rains”. I finally got some sleep after I whispered in Merlin’s ear, okay begged, “Please no crying tonight. I can’t take it anymore.” He was quiet as a lamb. Fingers and paws crossed for a repeat performance tonight.

I sorely needed a break and enjoyed attending the Japanese film festival in NYC to see new feature film about cats called Rent-a-Cat. Tamar Arslanian of I Have Cat sported a cute new Audrey Hepburn hairdo and a rare case of shyness. Cat rescuer extraordinaire Dawn White was amused by our antics. A purrfect time was had by all.

We have a caption contest hosted by Lisa Fleming. What is this mama cat saying to her three kittens? The winning caption will win a copy of Lisa’s book Cat And Crow. Enter your caption comment here or at her Cat and Crow Facebook Page The winner will be announced here on Monday. This contest is open to any cat lover anywhere in the world!

Caption “What time do you call this? Don’t answer back! Get inside immediately. Your dinner’s in the dog.”

Odin’s present is the best … well I am sure he thinks so! Great pic.

    Happy early birthday, Layla! 🙂

We are definitely purring and praying for Merlin. We hope last night was just the first of many repeat performances.

Sorry we missed the Rent-a-Cat premiere. Sounds like it was fun, and that it is a neat film.

    We’re voting every day!

Happy early birthday! Looks like you are getting a wonderful present 🙂
I love the way you put “carrying an umbrella in case it rains.” How nice Merlin can use “umbrella.”
I am interested in the movie Rent-a-Cat. Looks very interesting!

    You’re not kidding there’s a lot here!

I’m so glad you and Merlin came to an agreement. It’s best to be understanding of their needs, but there’s nothing wrong with letting them know you have needs too.

Good luck in the games! And I’m totally envious all the girls got together for a movie and I wasn’t there! (My local friends would laugh hysterically at that because I always turn them down for outings.)

Sending many purrs to Merlin – hope they can help even if just a little bit!

Happy Purrthday to the Mom, of course! Odin’s pic reminded me of Grouik: he often brought home gifts to the humans. I’m not that good at catching them though.

Odin’s pic also made me thought of a caption for this last picture:
“This mouse was for the humans, not for you kiddies!”

    Purrs!

I loved the pictures and thought of the time our cat Waylon brought a mouse to our BBQ party.

How and where are you using the puppy pads?

I am so sorry about Merlin’s condition. Gunther looked just like Odin, Last fall, he purred all night for two months on my pillow and one night, he no longer did. We made the tough decision. He had cancer. He was 13.

    For the caption:

All right, you bunch of hooligans! Which one of you made a mess in Mom’s garden?

    or the politically correct one:)

All right, which one of you made a mess in Mom’s garden?

    purrs. Kathy

Kathy, thanks for your good wishes. I placed the two puppy pads on an area of the bed he has been using but not where I sleep. So far so good.

Oh my, what an incredible post, Layla. So glad the vole was okay. Hope you can get rest with Merlin aging. He really loves you. Love that deer. Must C that movie.

As for the caption: I immediately thought of this:

“Oh, three little kittens, good little kittens, where have you been? What? You’ve been to London to visit the Queen?”
