Caturday Birthday Cause: ASPCA Cats Against Puppy Mills
Our focus at Cat Wisdom 101 is cats but we love all animals. In lieu of celebrating Gris Gris’s birthday, we have partnered with the A.S.P.C.A and their cause to stop puppy mills. More about Gris Gris and how you can win a big prize pack from the A.S.P.C.A at the end of this post.
Did you know that as a cat owner, you can make a difference by pledging not to shop at stores that sell puppies? Most pet store puppies come from puppy mills, so we are encouraging cat lovers to take the pledge not to buy anything—no kitty litter, no cat food, no toys, nothing—in pet stores that sell puppies.
We’re pissed off animals suffer in cruel puppy mills, where they typically spend their entire lives in tiny cages with wire floors, stacked on top of one another. They often suffer from lack of proper nutrition, socialization and veterinary care or worse. The only reason they exist is to make money. If no one supports them, they won’t stay in business. It’s as simple as that.

I just adopted a kitty from my local shelter. I wanted a Siamese cat but not from a breeder. I called the shelter and told them to contact me when one became available. I had to wait a while but I have my Siamese cat and I couldn’t love him more. Shelters receive specific breeds all the time just let them know what you want and then wait.

They have literally ruined some breeds of dogs and the conditions these poor dogs and puppy’s are raised under is deplorable!!

We have actually had several puppy mills in our area and thankfully they have been dealt with sadly tho relocation is always an option. As you said the only way to stop them is to not support them in any way! Everyone can do something and this is a purrfect example of how a small act can create the hurricane force that can destroy this evil thing and others…..the butterfly effect …it is a powerful thing! Don’t ever believe that there is nothing you can do for animals!

Well, happy almost-birthday to Gris Gris anyway.
A petition was recently presented to our City council to ban the sale of cats and dogs in pet stores here, other than those from the shelters (i.e. adoption). I had signed it, hope it will go through. MOST pet supply stores already work with our City’s HS to adopt out, though a couple of stores still sell from puppy and kitten mills, though of course they deny it.
