Caturday Kudos, Videos and Vet Kills Cat With Crossbow

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

Kristin Lindsey, 31, a veterinarian from Texas, created a firestorm on Facebook yesterday when she posted a smiling photo of herself holding up a cat killed with a crossbow. Her caption reads,”my first bow kill lol. The only good feral tomcat is one with an arrow through its head! Vet of the year award… greatly appreciated.” She later comments about her job, “Psshh. Like someone would get rid of me. I’m awesome.”

The offending Facebook page was removed but the image and story exploded into international news coverage.

The killed cat may not be feral but a missing orange tabby named Tiger which complicates matters legally. Feral cats don’t have the same rights as domestic cats in Texas. Dr Lindsey was immediately fired from her position at The Washington Animal Clinic in Brenham, Texas and has made no comment to the press. The local news channel KBTX has the latest timeline of the alleged crime. The public, whether cat lovers or not are expressing their outrage and death threats have been issued.

A Facebook page Justice For Tiger racked up 12,000 likes in one day. Tiger resembles the dead cat but no body has been found. We will closely follow as the investigation unfolds, and report updates. What’s baffling is why a young vet, who took an oath to protect and heal animals would create career suicide. Psychiatrists will likely weigh in, speculating on personality disorders like narcissistic sociopaths or psychopaths who known to kill for fame or notoriety.

This is a video of Tiger recorded by his cat sitter Amy Hemsell in Nov. 2014. Tiger was last seen two weeks ago and remains missing.

Another ginger and cream cat is in the news but on a happier note. Caturday Kudos to our friends at Cole and Marmalade who won the Modern Cat cover contest. It was a heated flurry of competitive voting but ginger boy Marm won and is rocking the hot off press cover.

While we were rooting for Marmalade to win the cover contest, I got to know his closest competitor, Joe The Cat and developed a friendly relationship with his guardian over the phone. Michelle not only is taking care of Joe but spearheading an anti-cruelty campaign in Canada while dealing with the court case. She could use some help. Over a year ago, Joe was shot 17 times by a pellet gun and left for dead by the side of the road. The perpetrators were arrested and a long drawn out trial ensued. The next court date and protest rally is April 23rd in Sarnia, Ont. Canada. It’s Joe’s anniversary today!

Justice can be a very slow process but slow and steady win the race. Joe left the hospital one year ago today to complete his recovery in a foster home. He lost an eye but has fully recovered.

Please visit the Joe The Cat, to view videos of the case and rallies or his Facebook page for latest details and to share in his cause for justice.

I’m a contributing cat expert at Victoria Stilwell and recently posted an Adoption PSA. When I shared it didn’t get much buzz but when Victoria Stilwell shared it went viral on Facebook with over 8,500 shares so far. I’m thinking of creating a t-shirt for charity. Thoughts?

I’m happy to share Victoria Stilwell’s adorable puppy and kitten video PSA against puppy mills. Ruggles is a tiny shih-tzu who was rescued from a puppy mill bust last year. His kitty friend Chompers was found by herself under a porch when she was only two days old. The two became fast friends. Ah, if only all rescues had such happy endings.

It’s been another busy week. For those you concerned about Merlin and his vet visit, he’s alive and will be blogging about it on Monday. We’re skipping a post on Sunday and if you missed our exclusive CatFe L.A. cat cafe event at NKLA celeb kitty pix, click here to view

The first part of this makes me so sad. 🙁 I hope it was not the missing kitty for Tiger’s family’s sake. She should loose her license and never be allowed to adopt any either.

I did not know about Joe’s story. I’ll check out the website.

I think t-shirts are a great idea! I’d buy some for myself and friends!!!

A lot of humans are evil. We personally knew a cat that was shot with an arrow but lived thanks to the vets at the Tinton Falls HS. That lady should get together with the one posing with the dead giraffe and blast themselves off to the moon or something. Or maybe they could hang in da hood and see how long they last.

What a horrific story……we didn’t see anything about it and I’m glad we didn’t but it’s good to know that so-called vet was fired. Unbelievable cruelty and we sure hope it’s NOT the missing ginger in that same area. Animal cruelty gets us all fired up.

On a happier note, glad to hear Merlin’s vet visit went well…….also saw that Thomas the incredible sketch artist has said he’d love to do a drawing of Merlin – he’s been doing a great job with so many of our friends we hope that you’ll have him do one of our Wise Wizard Merlin!

I live in TX and was close to this area last weekend on a trip to see the famous bluebonnets. The sheriff’s dept. is in charge of the investigation. Many of us are Emailing the vet licensing office requesting that her license be revoked in TX, and hopefully it will be in other states as well. Her name has already been removed from the clinic sign and her information from the clinic’s site. I believe her Facebook site crashed or was closed due to death threats. I have sent a brief account of the alleged incident to Colorado State University where she graduated. Their vet school ranks #3 in the nation. If you just Google vet,Brenham TX, the story will probably come up. What a despicable human she is.

This is an awful story. I am glad this vet was fired from the practice who employed her. I hope she loses her vet license and also does time in prison for animal cruelty. Stories like this always are so hard to read and make me so sad,

we had not read the story about the vet who killed the cat with the crossbow. I cannot understand how a Vet could do such a thing. It’s in comprehensible. And terribly terribly sad.

  • jansfunnyfarm

Read about that idiot vet on FB yesterday and was glad to see she was fired. Problem is, she’s still a vet. She should have her license revoked and also go to jail.

Poor Joe had a bad experience! Glad he has recovered. Hope there is justice for what happened to him.

I was just reading articles about pilot suicide and the need to intervention for pilot mental health and now to read this about a vet! I am shocked beyond belief. More mental health screening is warranted across the board for professionals. That vet is shocking beyond belief, to repeat myself.

Glad that some animals do find good homes and we always need to find homes for more.

I do not do facebook so this is new to me. I would not go to a vet who killed house pets for sport. That she would brag about it is insane! Tiger does bear an uncanny resemblance. I hope it is not him. I had an orange and white cat named Tiger many years ago, which makes me even madder! Looking forward to hopefully some good news on Merlin. Microchips–even though my cats are indoor, they are chipped. They might escape, and then where would we be?

FYI, we love love the idea of the t-shirt with the adoption things you can do to help! Get it done fast, get it on sites like Victoria’s etc. If you don’t someone will steal the idea. DO IT Layla!!!!! (T-shirts,mugs,hats,jackets,people love those things and with such a colorful graphic they will be fab!)

This is one of the prime examples of why the FBI is finally going to start considering animal cruelty etc. as a crime against humanity and start admitting and acting on the fact that such acts are very often committed by those that are “disturbed” (for want of a better word) and have or often will commit such horrendous crimes against humans as well.
We as a species can be the most horrendous, evil, cruel, and violent and also the most gentle, loving and kind.
Concats to Marm! Concats to Joe for having come to be with a caring wonderful human after encountering one of the horrible ones.
We are so happy to hear that our dear friend Merlin is doing well!

Makes me sick to think that anyone would be so deliberately cruel. I am glad that she swiftly lost her job and only wish that justice could be reached. Worse thing is that she is probably enjoying the notoriety.

I was beyond mortified by this disgusting individual…i cannot imagine the mentality behind such clear gleefulness…sign of a sociopath to me..i would be worried if i were her relatives..then again the apple often does not fall far from the tree.As for Joe poor darling..i lost my panther boy Simba to a shotgun…we sold our house a year later when the stink of it never left..we took all our animals and the ashes of our passed sweeties 3 hours away..people can be the most debase creatures and yet also so amazing..such a contrast..hope justice is served….

  • Nerissa's Life

I read ’bout that ‘vet’ and was horrified however very happy to see such swift action bein’ taken by authorities. I sure do hope she’s put on a watch list, or somethin’, by the FBI. Anyone who delights in killing like that, needs to be watched, for sure.

I can’t imagine she could touch my dog with the blood of the cat on her hands what she killed with a cross bow…. it makes me so sad how cruelty this world can be…

  • Brian Frum

That Vet should be a Vet no more, period. Hey, your blog doesn’t remember me any more and I have to fill out my name, email and website address each time now, any ideas?

  • Summer

My human and I were shocked and horrified over the actions of this “professional” veterinarian. The only job she would be suited for is something like butcher – that should satisfy her need to kill things.
