Cats Just Wanna Have Fun

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

Question of the day: what is the feline equivalent of being in the doghouse? Odin, here and it’s my turn to host Cat Saturday even though I’m in the doghouse for being very naughty. *Yawn* as if I care.cat-summer-fun-cute-odinWhat can I say? Cats just wanna have fun.

I have a thing for trees and twice this week I escaped from my harness to indulge my passion. Usually, I obey commands to come within five minutes, but nothing could lure me from my big tree adventure this week. I eluded capture for a whole hour. That was fun. Mama Layla did not agree. I always have one eye on trouble. Mind you, I only have one eye. Here I am just before I masterminded the big escape.cat-harness-garden-odin- See how exhilarating it is? I can see for miles and it’s almost as free as being a bird. The only downside is I have to come down, but I’m getting very skilled at it. Practice makes purr-fect, don’t you know.

Once indoors, I hardly got into any trouble at all. In fact, I made myself quite useful. Layla had a new basket for collecting herbs which I had to test. Cat Rule #359: An empty bag, basket or box does not stay empty for long.

But enough about me…now about those bros of mine. Merlin or Mr. Cranky Pants, is fed up with my jumping on him. He hisses and growls at me all the time. Sheesh. He just likes to snuggle with Layla all night long (what a mamma’s boy!) or with Gris Gris who also hisses at me in this low, unearthly caterwaul. I’m the odd man out, it seems. Good thing I like being independent.

Don’t tell anyone, but I have secret. Sometimes I sneak into my parent’s bed in the middle of the night and suckle like when I was a kitten. I purr, knead and drool until I feel secure and then leave. What can I say, I was weaned too young as a kitten and had a rough kittenhood on the streets of the Bronx. After a bad infection, the vet had no alternative but to remove my left eye. It might explain why I am the way I am.

Sometimes I nap near my brothers during the day but usually I nap alone in rotation of favorite places. Gris Gris still likes to wrestle with me but since I’ve grown to twice his size, I win all the matches ha ha. Layla has to referree way too much her or my liking. Gris Gris has become Merlin’s personal body guard indoors and outdoors. We love the heat but too much sun is harmful, and cats with pink-tipped ears like mine, have to be extra careful.

cats-summer-hot-humor-shade-sun Gris Gris does love a hot stone massage during the lazy hazy days of summer.

cat-gray-hot-stone-massage-humor The most exciting thing happened yesterday, when Layla heard real caterwauling outside. She ran out to witness a knock-down somersaulting turf battle between Domino and his arch rival, one of the Blackie sisters. Either Lunesta or Ambien, (I’m not sure which). They are beautiful, sleek, long-haired black cats who live two doors away, but Domino hates them. There’s a backstory here, but I’m not privy to it. He chased her so far, he didn’t come home for hours.

Good news: is Domino is feeling, looking and walking better. But, he’s still on two antibiotics for the bone infection and his compromised immune system doesn’t need any added stress. A feral life, even one as pampered one as Domino’s is never easy! It turns out Domino is no ordinary feral but a Ragdoll. Layla contacted two Ragdoll breeders and one thought he is indeed a Ragdoll and the other thought he was at least part sealpoint-bi/color Ragdoll.

This holiday weekend, please take care if you’re using any fireworks. Cats are especially are afraid of their loud noise. Reassure them, that there’s no danger and some scaredy cats can benefit from Rescue Remedy or other a homeopathic stress drops. Have a safe and happy holiday!

Hey Odin! Great story – as always, you are keeping Layla on her toes and we have great respect for your high standards insofar as maintaining and acheiving naughtiness in your life.

Great blogging Odin! Love the picture of you in the tree….Sam has never climbed a tree, but he likes to run across the yard as fast as he can and leap up 3 or 4 feet and hang onto the tree for a minute or so, then drop down to the ground. Not sure what that’s all about but maybe he’s a treehugger? Anyway, Domino looks so much better and if he took on a little “challenge” from the neighbor cats he must be back to full chasing speed with that leg. Hope you all have a nice holiday weekend – it will be a noisy one with all the fireworks!

Pam, it’s just as well he doesn’t go higher. Lots of a cats do the semi-tree climb, just enough to leave scent markers and have a good scratch.

Looks like you’re all having a lot of fun! Odin Odin Odin – it’s a miracle that Layla’s hair hasn’t turned all grey over all the trouble you get yourself in.

Happy Holiday weekend to all of you!
