Cats VS Dogs Art Exhibit & Fab Friday Finds

If you love cats, sharing makes us purrrr :-)

Cats and art or cats in art is a marriage made in kitty heaven. Add dogs into the mix and it’s double the fun. You can experience a beautifully curated exhibit of 150 pet paintings this summer at University of Texas at Austin’s Blanton Museum of Art

The must-see exhibit “In the Company of Cats and Dogs” at the Blanton Museum of Art is on from June 22 to September 21, 2014.

This exhibit is a cultural and historical overview dating from ancient Egypt throughout the centuries to contemporary artists by bold-face names like Picasso, Edward Hopper to John Sargent. I’m a huge fan of Asian art depicting cats this 1931 woodblock print Cat Prowling Around a Staked Tomato Plant by Takahashi Hiroaki from the exhibit.

 art antique-

This is our antique or vintage Friday Cat Art find. Please note: It is NOT part of the above exhibit but a drawing from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. In a daring act, they placed 125,000 pieces of art from their archives online copyright-free and Encourage artists to alter or create new art from the pieces. This drawing is by Jean Bernard and dated 1792. I didn’t alter this piece yet but NeedlesS to say I’m feeling very inspired. Imagine who this cat belonged to, its look direct, its paws curled snug the way all cats do and always have. It’s no wonder cats have inspired artists for thousands of years.
